Half Man, an upcoming drama series about two estranged brothers, is going to be released in 2026 on BBC iPlayer, BBC One, BBC Scotland, and HBO Max. The show is created by Richard Gadd, known for his multi-Emmy-winning Netflix series, Baby Reindeer.

The first look at Half Man has been released by HBO Max, which gives us a sneak peek at Richard Gadd as Ruben. Jamie Bell stars as Ruben's brother Nial, and the show will explore their complicated relationship across four decades.

What it means to be a man...
Half Man, from Richard Gadd, the Emmy-winning creator of Baby Reindeer, comes to HBO Max and BBC in 2026. Starring Gadd and Jamie Bell.

The show is written, created, and executive-produced by Richard Gadd, who also stars as Ruben. The first look images include one picture each of Gadd and Bell as Ruben and Niall, and one picture of the two brothers meeting.

The BBC's Media Centre states,

"Today’s first look reveals the surprise reunion between Ruben and Niall after years of estrangement, leading to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives over the course of the series. Spanning almost 40 years from the 1980s to the present day..."

The younger versions of Ruben and Niall are played by Stuart Campbell and Mitchell Robertson, respectively. The rest of the cast includes Neve McIntosh as Niall’s mother, Lori and Marianne McIvor as Ruben’s mother, Maura. While we do not know the exact details of the story, the fact that they have different mothers but the same father could be a part of their rift.

Other actors who are a part of the cast are Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Amy Manson, Julie Cullen, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Piers Ewart, Scot Greenan, Charlotte Blackwood, and Calum Manchip. Their roles are yet to be revealed.

If you watched Baby Reindeer, you will remember Richard Gadd as Donny Dunn, who gets stalked by a woman in the most unnerving way possible. The actor had also written and created Baby Reindeer, which was based on his autobiographical one-man show.

Gadd's role in Half Man is quite different from that of Baby Reindeer. In the upcoming drama, Gadd looks more physically built, and as per the story details, he is not in the same situation as Donny.

Gadd has proven himself as a storyteller with Baby Reindeer, which won him multiple awards, and from the looks of it, Half Man will likely be an interesting watch as well. The show is directed by Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck. Other than Gadd, the executive producers on the show are Gaynor Holmes, Gavin Smith, Tally Garner, and Morven Reid. Mam Tor Productions is the production company behind the show.

Half Man will be released on BBC iPlayer, BBC One, BBC Scotland, and HBO Max in 2026. A specific release date is yet to be announced.
