Merritt is stuck in a mysterious chamber in Dept. Q

Merritt is searching for William’s hat on the ferry. After she approaches a woman who is calling out to her, a man comes from behind and covers Merritt’s head with a cloth. We then find Merritt trapped in an enclosed space. She calls out for help and says that the police will be looking for her now, but abruptly, loud music takes over, making her cower down.

The Dept. Q episode opens with Carl Morck expressing his frustrations about his stepson, Jasper, to Dr. Irving.

Bruce is working on the Leith Park case at the station. Carl suggests that the shooter could have been inside the house when the police arrived, as the back door was closed with bins leaning against it. Bruce also shares that they found a man on the nearby CCTV camera about 25 minutes before the officers got to the place.

Carl concludes that the shooter could have had food and come back to shoot. He asks Bruce to check on the witness who saw a man get into a car and drive away. As they part, Bruce wonders if there were two culprits.

A visit to Mhor brings forth new findings in Dept Q Episode 4

The Dept. Q episode takes us to a flashback where Merritt is looking around in the chamber for ways to escape. She notices that the signs indicate some kind of pressurized enclosure.

Rose visits Hardy at the hospital and informs him that she will be part of the case. Hardy asks Rose to focus on Harry Jenning’s family and all connections to Merritt's disappearance.

In Mhor, Rose strikes up a conversation with an officer. He shares that Merritt and Harry Jennings shared a close bond. In fact, after she left with her brother, she came back to Mhor to attend Harry’s funeral.

Rose learns that Harry’s father, Clive, had died, and his mother, Ailsa, is an extremely private person. The constable asks another officer, his son Colin, to take Rose to meet Ailsa.

Colin shares that in the room where William was found, he thinks his father put a circle around a necklace on the floor. At the house, they see a hazardous waste board, which was a business run by Clive Jennings. They look around for Ailsa but get no response.

Dept. Q Episode 4 gives a new suspect, the mysterious S

Carl gets home to find Victoria in conversation with Martin. Jasper is staying with his mother and getting better. She informs Carl that Jasper will be back and that he needs to sort things out soon.

At Dept. Q, Rose shows Akram Lila Lingard’s necklace on the floor from the Lingard robbery scene. It was not stolen during the burglary, and in all probability, Merritt took it on the day she arrived for Harry’s funeral.

Akram is going through the files sent by the Crown Office. He finds a note that implies Merritt was seeing someone. The note is signed ‘S’. They decide to first talk to her assistant, Sabrine Perera.

Sabrine is questioned in Dept. Q. When Rose shares Merritt’s note with the letter ‘S’, Sabrine says she does not know about it. Sabrine shares that Merritt did not care for the men in the office, so it would be someone from outside.

Carl visits Liam, who had worked with Merritt previously. Liam shares that they had a brief relationship. They would meet at the Prince’s Hotel, where Merritt would check in as Lila Graham.

Merritt is forced to face her past in Dept. Q

At the Prince’s Hotel, Carl and Akram learn that Merritt stayed in the same room six times, about two months before she disappeared. But the last time she was at the hotel, a man named Sam Haig had signed as an authorized guest.

Dept. Q once again takes us back to the chamber, where a mysterious voice asks Merritt to figure out why she is there. The voice warns her that if she gives the wrong answer, she will be there for another month before getting her next chance.

A flashback shows Merritt in the hotel room. Claire had texted her to come home, and someone in the room asks if she is fine. Back in the chamber, she says Sam Haig, to which the voice asks what she did to him.

Once again, the scene shifts to the hotel room where Merritt is leaving for Mhor. She tells Sam that she is only having a physical relationship with him. As she leaves, he looks annoyed.

Towards the end of Dept. Q Episode 4, the mysterious voice in the chamber tells her that Sam is dead because of her. The news shocks her. Suddenly, the person increases the pressure, making Merritt sweat and tremble uncontrollably.
