NBC's Dateline Season 32 Episode 12, The End of the Affair, first aired on November 9, 2023. This case was revisited in a Dateline episode aired on April 12, 2025, at 9/8c on NBC. This episode deals with the chilling 2011 murder of a 43-year-old Florida-based businessman, a frisbee world champion and a father of two. On June 1, 2011, Camilo Salazar went missing after he dropped his daughter off at his wife's office to pick up his daughter's pacifier. The next day, his partially burnt and bruised body was found near the Florida Everglades.
After a thorough investigation, the detectives found Camilo's murder was not as simple as it seemed. He was kidnapped and brutally killed by ex-MMA players Ariel Gandulla, Alexis Vila Perdomo, and a fight trainer, Roberto Issac. The reason? Manuel Marin, the President of a local supermarket, hired them to kill Camilo Salazar.
Due to a lack of evidence, it took eight years and a plea confession and testimony from Ariel Gandulla to finally put the murderers behind bars. In 2019, Ariel Gandulla, Roberto Issac, and Alexis Perdomo were convicted and sentenced to prison. However, Manuel Marin, who fled the country in 2011, surrendered to the Spanish police on August 24, 2018. In 2023, he was tried for the killing of Camilo Salazar, for which he was sentenced to lifetime imprisonment.

Camilo Salazar was a 43-year-old, Miami-based businessman and a father of two who was brutally murdered in June 2011.
Born in April 1968 in Colombia, Camilo's family moved to the US for better opportunities. After he graduated from Florida International University, he joined his father's real estate business and later set up his own window treatment business. Camilo was married to Daisy Lewis, and they lived in the Coconut Grove neighborhood in Miami. He was a dedicated husband and father and held strong religious beliefs, often frequenting the church to help the parish. Daisy was associated with an event management company.
In an interview with Dateline, his family (sister and mother) opened up about how passionate he was about sports. Camilo Salazar was part of a frisbee team called Miami Refugees, who even won the world championship. His mother remembered Camilo as a helpful and caring child. His mother told Dateline,
"Camilo was always a big support for all."

Things took a wild turn when, on June 1, 2011, he went missing after he dropped his three-week-old daughter off at Daisy's workplace, near South Dixie Highway, in the morning. Camilo stepped out to get the pacifier for his daughter from the car but did not return. His car was found in the parking lot, with the windows rolled in and keys inside, but there was no trace of him. The scene suggested foul play.
2) Camilo Salazar's partially burnt body was found near Florida Everglades: Dateline
When Miami police began to investigate the case, they couldn't trace him via the CCTV footage. The next day, the investigators were alerted about a partially dead body found at the Northwest 138th and Okeechobee Road, in the Florida Everglades area.
Soon, the forensic reports suggested that it was, in fact, Camilo Salazar's body. The injuries suggested that Camilo was brutally assaulted; his throat was severed, and his genitals were partially burnt. However, as little to no evidence was found at the crime scene, the investigators searched for clues from Salazar's personal life.
3) Camilo Salazar was involved in an extra-marital affair with Jenny Marin: Dateline
For his family and friends, Camilo was a loving and dedicated person, but he, too, kept secrets. Upon thorough investigation, the detectives found out that Camilo was in an extra-marital affair with Jenny Marin, the wife of the local supermarket mogul, Manuel Marin. The duo met in South Florida for the first time, and they kept their relationship a secret. In February 2011, Manuel discovered his wife's illicit relationship with Camilo and confronted Jenny.
After Jenny's confession, the investigators came to know that Manuel Marin left the U.S the day after the murder. He had flown to Paris with a round trip ticket, but he never returned.
4) Manuel Marin hired ex-MMA fighters to kill Camilo Salazar: Dateline

Manuel engineered a plan to murder Camilo Salazar out of love, jealousy, and betrayal. According to his phone records, the investigators found out that he was contacted by three former MMA fighters the day Camilo Salazar was murdered.
Manuel Marin, a wrestling enthusiast, was friends with Alexis Pedromo, an Atlanta Olympic Bronze medalist, and helped him to relocate in America. According to Manuel's phone details, he was in contact with former MMA fighters Alexis Pedromo and Ariel Gandula and a trainer, Roberto Issac, on the unfateful day.
The investigation was stalled until 2015, when the investigators found a match to the fingerprint from Camilo's car. It matched with the Ariel Gandula who was arrested before for a drug case. But like the others, he too fled the country.
In 2018, the state attorney finally charged the four suspects for the murder of Camilo Salazar. The investigators got hold of Alexis and Roberto and brought them to custody. They also traced Manuel to Spain via his son. Manuel surrendered to the Spanish Embassy on August 24, 2018. He was flown back to Florida and put in custody. Meanwhile, Ariel Gandula was arrested in Vancouver, and he provided testimony against the three in return for a plea deal.

Based on Ariel Gandula's testimony, the MMA fighters posed as police officers and kidnapped Camilo from the parking lot. They zip-tied him and took him to a secluded industrial area, where Camilo was dragged by Manny into his Mercedes. Twelve years after Camilo's murder, Manuel Marin was finally charged with second-degree murder in 2023.
