"Couldn't separate friendship from gameplay": The Amazing Race star Scott Thompson reflects on his and Lori's elimination

Scott and Lori, in their recent interview with Gold Derby, published on April 4, 2025, reflected on their elimination and shared more about it. Recalling their elimination and how things turned out during the fifth episode, Scott opened up about their "disappointment."

"We felt like the mom and dad of the season. I got to the point where I felt like it was our sons voting against us. It was because I couldn't separate friendship from gameplay. They voted for who they perceived as threats. We didn't perceive ourselves to be threats. It was hard for me to separate that," he shared.

The Amazing Race Season 37 Episode 5: Scott and Lori recall their elimination after a surprising Double U-Turn

Fans witnessed The Amazing Race Season 37 Episode 5 with a few unexpected events, including a Double U-Turn. As a result, two couples, Scott-Lori and Jonathan-Ana, received the most votes. Because of that, they had to go through two Detour tasks.

After Scott and Lori, husband and wife from Salt Lake City, came in last, were eliminated from the competition. Reflecting on their journey and how their elimination was emotional, the couple opened up during their April 4, 2025, interview with Gold Derby.

Stay-at-home mother of eight, Lori shared about the voting from the latest episode:

"The (vote) that kind of hurt my feelings was from Nick and Mike (Fiorito). We had more of a connection with them and felt a friendship bond with them. What escalated it was Mark [Romain] saying we weren't 'as nice' or 'as kind' (as everybody else) — that we were just playing a game and we were tricking everybody."

Sharing more about how she and Scott are "positive" and had positive intentions for fellow teams, the female cast member added:

"We are positive. We want everyone to succeed and do well! He just didn't believe us. I don't want to be friends with somebody that's so negative and mean. That's why I didn't even give him any more of my time."

On the other hand, Scott mentioned how their elimination was quite emotional for them. He stated that they thought their connections on The Amazing Race were "genuine" and that they got lost in the game.

The male cast member stated he and Lori felt like the "mom and dad" of the season and that their elimination felt like their "sons" voted against them.

Recalling their elimination moment, The Amazing Race star Lori said Scott is a "Teddy bear" and that he cries "all the time." She mentioned that it was a "team effort" and that they couldn't complete it "fast enough."
