The midseason finale for Chicago Fire Season 13 brought new challenges and a pet for the characters in Firehouse 15. While Ritter struggled with a decision to move in with Dwight, which he didn't want to, Pascal's wife Monica paid a visit to the Firehouse.
Episode 8 also welcomes back Hermann, who was suspiciously absent from the previous two episodes. After hyping up the entire season, he finally took his captain's test with his best friend Mouch.
The episode didn't have any major cliffhangers, but it did give a closer peek at many characters' backstories, and for some, the past came haunting back in the form of danger.
Carver gets a new canine friend after he rescues a dog on a call. The team had been on a hunt for a new dog, but Pascal, who lashes out at him because of an argument with his wife, asks him to give up the dog. Carver sends the dog to live with another family in Chicago Fire.

Hermann and Mouch prepare for their officer tests in Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 8
While many suspected that Hermann would take the captain's position in Season 13, we got a new captain in Pascal instead. While he has grown on the fans, seeing Hermann rule Firehouse 51 would have been great.
The midseason finale saw Hermann finally give the officers a test alongside his best friend, Mouch. However, Hermann's qualifying for the test would create some problems in the hierarchy of Firehouse 51.
With Pascal heading the team, if he decides to stay at Firehouse 51 for a long time, Hermann would have to transfer to another station. However, if he does fail and stays here, it would create problems for Mouch, who, if qualified, would become the Lieutenant.
However, the episode ends without discovering the characters' fates, but we hope to see all our favorite characters in the upcoming episodes.
Cruz receives a threat on Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 8
Cruz receives a threat in the episode when he finds a bullet placed in his locker, as well as his car. He brushes it off, thinking it is a prank by Tony and Capp, but his brother Leon turns up with disturbing news.
The threat goes back to when his brother had connections with a gang called Insane Kings. Cruz left the group leader, Flaco, to burn alive in a fire after he saved his brother Leon.
Apparently, Flaco's cousin has come back to avenge his brother's death with Cruz and Leon. Earlier, Cruz also received a container filled with Flaco's ashes.
This threat doesn't look good for Cruz, who might get into serious trouble with Chicago's criminal gangs.
Novak loses control on one of the calls in Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 8
Novak has always been one of the characters who can brush up on the negative things they see daily on calls in their line of work. But this episode saw Novak attending a call that hit too deep to home, and she lost control.
She and Violet were assigned for a wellness check. They found a man hanging from the ceiling. He was thankfully alive as the two quickly worked out to bring him down. Novak lost it. She screamed at him for thinking such a stupid thing and even chastised him for pulling such a stunt.
While it is not entirely clear what took over Novak, one can assume that she has a family secret relating to the events of this call. She might have lost one of her family members, or possibly a sibling, to suicide.
