Brkn: Everything we know about the upcoming Nordic thriller series by Iceland’s Glassriver

Brkn is a new Nordic thriller that is set to seismically shake Icelandic television. Produced by Glassriver and distributed globally by True Colours, it is based on a crime novel by Jon Atli Jonasson.

It is a crime procedural set in Reykjavik that follows two police officers in the search for a vanished nonbinary teenager as they discover crime, corruption, and malpractice.

Jonasson's production team is impressive, with Thorleifur Orn Arnarsson serving as director and Margret Ornolfsdottir bringing her experience from The Valhalla Murders and Trapped. Brkn combines the tension of the psyche with the accustomed tunes of a police drama, making it an audacious new project.

The series has an intriguing storyline and an excellent creative vision that will attract viewers across the globe.

Mystery of Brkn

The plot is based on the disappearance of a nonbinary teenager, Morgan, who lives in Reykjavik. Starting as a case of a missing man, it leads almost immediately to a dangerous investigation that involves two determined police officer, Dora and Rado.

Their investigation reveals disturbing connections with organized crime, business influence, and police corruption, and makes the mystery a tense tour in the capital of Iceland.

The show has dramatic suspense with a dark backdrop.


How does Dóra's trauma shape her in Brkn?

Brkn introduces the audience to a police officer, Dora, whose trauma of past trauma influences all of her actions. She has experienced a tragic event because she was shot in the head as she attempted to prevent a suicide attempt by her boyfriend.

Her life experiences and her work mix as she attempts to unravel the mystery behind Morgan's disappearance.

This clash brings her immense personal pain and outside danger, creating both an internal struggle and an external threat. This is a layered character study which gives an added twist to the mystery.

Glassriver has earned a reputation for complex storytelling, and Dora is bound to be one of the most interesting elements of Brkn.


Why is Rado conflicted in his investigation?

Rado, one of the police officers, has another internal conflict that is also threatens his case in the Brkn series, which is his investigation of Morgan.

Even family members of Rado start becoming possible suspects in the disappearance case. This leaves a bitter situation between his obligation as a police officer and his devotion to the members of his own family. Rado has to walk a thin line of exploration, and at the same time, uphold his professional integrity by exploring the people he loves.

The investigation of the case will put his commitment to family to the test when the stakes are raised.
