Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 3, titled “Take Your Medicine,” brings season 3 to a solid turning point. The episode is brutal and extremely revealing, especially for Jesse, who’s forced to face whatever is now left of his conscience.

He’s no longer the hasty gunslinger we once knew, but he's now a man who is tormented by loss and also the search for purpose. His out-of-the-blue decision near the end flips everything upside down for the series, and it proves that redemption isn't an easy find in the world of Billy.

Let’s break down how Episode 3 of Billy the Kid Season 3 unfolds and why this episode feels like the calm before a scary storm.

Billy’s resistance hits a wall as betrayal starts to circle in closer in Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 3

Episode 3 of Billy the Kid Season 3 opens with trouble already boiling under the surface. Billy’s rebellion is crushing him down, and every step that is being taken feels like walking into a mousetrap. Even after taking out Miguel for his disloyalty, Billy does not seem to be having his win, but at this rate, he's just hanging on and surviving in the best way he can. The walls are also closing in, and the burden of leadership starts to feel heavier than the weight of any bounty.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Jesse’s moral compass is completely awry. Still riding with Sheriff Garrett out of guilt and blackmail, he’s obviously torn between two separate worlds, i.e., duty and regret. The thought of Ana’s death falls over him like a haunting silhouette over every single decision he decides to take for himself. He tries his level best to sort of brainwash himself about doing the right things, but deep down, he himself knows that he’s truly lost his way.

However, having to watch Tom’s death take place right in front of him, with it being slow, downright painful, and also unwarranted, becomes a breaking point for him. It’s in this very moment that Jesse finally gets his head up on his shoulders and realizes that he can’t keep living like this.

And then there’s Riley, once a man of power, now a ghost of himself. After being tossed aside by Thomas Catron, he spirals hard and is drunk, desperate, and directionless. His final act outside the Murphy Store feels like a haunting mirror of what this world does to a broken man. It’s a reminder that in Billy the Kid Season 3, every fall from grace comes with a price.

Jesse’s guilt turns into grit: the fight that changes everything

Jesse’s journey in “Take Your Medicine” might just be the most gripping part of Billy the Kid Season 3 so far. The very moment he decides to turn his back and away from Garrett, along with switching sides, he also wins back a part of himself. The guilt that had been constantly eating him alive finally led him towards the road of honesty and feeling content.

Getting to the reunion between Jesse and Billy, well, it is not a pretty one. The air between them is thick with bitterness is filled to the very brim of a jar, and they have years of mistrust boiling over until it turns into a physical fight because both of these men carry the weight of a ghost they simply can’t seem to let go of.

However, when Jesse tells Billy, “I don’t want to be misunderstood,” you can feel the air shift and for a brief second, Billy can see the old Jesse — the one who once had his back and the one who still might.

It’s a beautifully messy moment in this episode of Billy the Kid Season 3 between the two of them because it's two people who’ve lost too much to even remember what peace could look like. And though Billy doesn’t fully trust him yet, there’s an unspoken truth hanging between them: they’re better off together than apart.

Garrett’s reckoning: when Billy finally fires back in Billy the Kid, Season 3, Episode 3

By the second half of Billy the Kid, Season 3, Episode 3, the energy changes completely. The tension that’s been building since the start explodes as Billy and Jesse finally join forces. It’s the kind of team-up that feels inevitable and electric and exciting. The outlaw and the fallen deputy, riding together once again.

They decide it’s time to now send Garrett a message, a message he won’t ever forget. What comes after is that Billy and his men ride straight into Lincoln County and open fire on the sheriff’s office. The mess is instant as the glass is seen shattering, men running for their lives, and gunfire being heard down the street. Garrett himself barely escapes, but it is his pride that takes a direct hit here.

For Billy, it's now about turning and flipping over the power dynamic. Garrett, the man who’s hunted him across many, many counties, suddenly seemed small to Billy again. Vulnerable, if anything. Mortal even. And this realization might just be the most damaging weapon Billy could have.

As the smoke from the gunfire clears, one thing becomes obvious: this fight isn't over. Garrett’s been publicly shamed by Billy, and his next move will be personal. The lines between law and vengeance blur out completely, and this sets the stage for an even bloodier showdown.

Emily Catron plays her game well, doesn't she?

Away from the battlefield, this episode of Billy the Kid, Season 3, Episode 3, also changes gears with Emily Catron. Her scenes with Garrett are layered with subtext because every word, every glance feels like a test. When Garrett tries to get closer to her, she stops him, leaving him and the fans wondering what her endgame could really be.

Emily’s playing her own kind of long game. After taking charge of the house from her father, there’s a cold intelligence behind every decision she takes. She’s plotting something. Whether it’s revenge against her father or something entirely different, her restraint feels like a strategy, not fear.

In a show that is filled with guns and showdowns, Emily might just be the deadliest weapon yet. And if there’s one thing Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 3 makes clear, it’s that power doesn’t always come from the fastest draw, but it can also come from having patience.

Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 3 delivers one of the show’s strongest hours yet with redemption, rebellion, and strong emotion. Jesse’s broken morality finally finds a spark of redemption, Billy’s rebellion takes him on to his next stage, and Garrett’s control and power finally take a blow.

It’s the kind of episode that feels like the midpoint before all hell breaks loose. If this is Billy “taking his medicine,” then what’s coming next might just be the fever that burns everything down.
