Pluribus is all out giving the spotlight to Patrick Fabian's cameo in Apple TV's most-watched show.
Created by Vince Gilligan, the Apple TV show features Rhea Seehorn, Karolina Wydra, and Carlos-Manuel Vesga in the main lead. The first season started on November 7 and has nine episodes in total, out of which five are already released.
With an 8.5 IMDb rating, the series has already gained the number one position on Apple's most-watched shows, and coming from the creators of the all-time classics Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, it's no surprise it's a hit.
Episode 5, released on November 26, titled Got Milk, came with a bigger surprise for the viewers as it featured a cameo of Patrick Fabian, who played the character of Howard Hamlin in Better Call Saul, created by Vince Gilligan, who created Pluribus.
However, it wasn't an on-screen cameo, as Patrick's role came through a voice recording that Carol received.
What did Patrick Fabian say in his Pluribus cameo?
In Pluribus Episode 5, Carol Sturka receives a call recording from Others, featuring Patrick Fabian lending his voice to say:
"Hello Carol, This is a recording. At the tone, you can leave a message to request anything you might need. We'll do our best to provide it. Our feelings for you haven't changed, Carol. But after everything that's happened, we just need a little space."
Rhea, who played the role of Carol, didn't know it was Patrick until the last minute. Speaking to TV Guide, she said,
"They surprised me. I did not know about this."
She added:
"They were hoping to get some kind of blooper take from me, but I was so terrified to mess up a take. Not terrified, but I just didn't want to — because I knew it was a long take, too, the first time she hears it."
Explaining how she reacted after she heard Patrick's voice for the first time on the set when the cameras were rolling, she said:
"I don't know which take they actually use, but I think if you got one of those psychologists or psychiatrists that study micro facial muscle changes, I'm pretty sure you could see me go, What? Patrick? But then I tried to cover and play the scene"
The actress nailed the scene, but she admitted she started laughing afterward after hearing Patrick's voice out of surprise. She revealed to TV Guide that her crew had been hiding this cameo from her just to play a little prank on her on the spot.
On November 5, before the series was released, Apple TV released a press release in which they named Patrick Fabian as the special guest. The mention of Patrick Fabian's name had already raised fans' expectations at that time.
However, with the new voice recording, there's also a question of whether Patrick will make another appearance through voice recordings. As of now, there's no official confirmation on the same by the creators of the show or Patrick Fabian, so it looks like he might not be back, at least for now. As for upcoming seasons, that's something we'll find out as the show goes on.
