Prime Video shocked fans when it announced the cancellation of Bosch: Legacy.
While viewers were left wondering why the show was ending, executive producer Michael Connelly hinted at Harry Bosch’s return in the upcoming Renee Ballard spinoff.
Now, actor Titus Welliver has shed some light on why Bosch: Legacy was canceled. According to him, the decision was more about money than the show’s quality or popularity.
Despite the disappointing news, there’s still a glimmer of hope for Bosch’s future, possibly on the big screen.
So, could Harry Bosch make the leap from TV to film? Welliver certainly thinks it’s possible. With Amazon already developing feature films for franchises like Jack Ryan and Reacher, a Bosch movie might not be far-fetched.
“There are people bandied about the idea of there being [a Bosch movie], because they’re doing a Jack Ryan feature, probably a Reacher feature. Is there a possibility of that? Yeah, I think anything’s possible. I know that everyone involved in the show would immediately raise their hand and say, ‘When and where.’”
What did Welliver say about the cancellation?
This isn’t the first time Welliver has brought up the idea of a Bosch film. He has previously mentioned his interest in both a Bosch and Reacher movie, fueling fan excitement.
The cancellation of Bosch: Legacy took many by surprise, including Welliver and Connelly. According to the actor, discussions about season four were already underway when Amazon decided to pull the plug.
“We’d already been in conversations midway towards the end of the season talking about the next season and ideas [for season four], and we were getting very excited about the prospect,”
Welliver revealed.
“I got a call from them, and they said they’re not going forward. It was a pretty brief conversation. We all expressed our disappointment, but we’ve all been doing this long enough to know that could happen.”
Though no official reason was given, Welliver hinted that financial decisions played a role rather than anything related to the show’s success or storytelling.
With Bosch: Legacy coming to an end after three seasons, it’s truly the end of an era for fans of the franchise. However, Welliver isn’t ready to say goodbye just yet.
“I always say to my kids, you know, when in doubt, hold hope.”
For now, Bosch’s story isn’t entirely over. With the upcoming Renee Ballard spinoff and the possibility of a film, there’s still hope that fans will see more of Harry Bosch in the future.
