And Just Like That Season 3 left fans heartbroken when Aidan and Carrie’s love story once again came to a bittersweet close. Turns out, John Corbett felt the same way as the rest of us.
Speaking to Us Weekly while promoting his new film Soul on Fire, Corbett admitted he had always hoped the two would finally find their happy ending. But even before shooting began, he knew it wouldn’t work out, and his reaction to that twist was surprisingly emotional.
John Corbett opens up about Aidan and Carrie’s final arc in And Just Like That Season 3
When And Just Like That Season 3 finally closed up Aidan and Carrie’s narrative, many fans were left wondering if this was truly the end. John Corbett, who has played Aidan Shaw since Sex and the City, revealed he had that same question before returning to the reboot.

He told US Weekly:
“When I started talking to Michael Patrick King about even coming back, it was my first question...Like, well, what’s going to happen?”
Corbett shared that he was among the few who knew from the start that Aidan and Carrie wouldn’t end up together. He said:
“I was one of the only people, besides some of the other writers and Sarah Jessica [Parker], who knew that it wouldn’t ultimately work out...”
The actor admitted he was disappointed, confessing he had been quietly rooting for their reunion to finally stick. Their story in And Just Like That Season 3 echoed old heartbreaks. Carrie, living in New York, and Aidan, settled in Virginia, tried to make a long-distance work, but their worlds were too far apart.
Returning to the “Sex and the City family” brought John Corbett full circle

Even though Aidan and Carrie didn’t end up together, Corbett said being part of And Just Like That Season 3 was a deeply emotional experience. He said:
“I just love every single person involved, whether they’re on camera or making us a little peanut butter and jelly sandwich...”
To him, this wasn’t just another acting job, but it was like going home. Corbett revealed that filming in New York again felt surreal and like a full-circle moment:
“I got to be in New York, and I stayed in my original apartment that I stayed in 25 years ago by Lincoln Center for both my last two seasons...”
But even he didn’t know the show was ending when he wrapped his part:
“When Aidan and Carrie had their final scene in the street, there were two or three more episodes...So when I was at home watching it on TV, I didn’t know what those stories were, because I had already left.”
Soon after, HBO announced that And Just Like That would not return, which is news that left Corbett just as sad as the fans.
Like many fans, John Corbett isn’t ready to say goodbye to And Just Like That Season 3 or to Aidan and Carrie’s complicated love story. Even if their romance ended once again, Corbett’s affection for the show and the characters who shaped it reminds us why this world still feels so real after all these years.
