In 1998, 23-year-old Amy Bradley, a recent college graduate, disappeared without a trace during a family vacation that was taking place on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The mystery surrounding her disappearance left both the police and the public perplexed for decades, as there was not a single piece of evidence to prove her fate.

The case was revisited once more in 2025 when the docuseries Amy Bradley Is Missing was released by Netflix. This docuseries, which explores the strange situation that involves her disappearance, has not just received hundreds of new tips but has given crucial leads to both the FBI and to the family of Bradley.

Investigators have, since the release of the show, gotten three new leads that they consider to be "very significant", thus rekindling their hopes of finding out the truth behind this long-unsolved mystery. This is according to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter.

The Netflix docuseries Amy Bradley Is Missing gave the cold case a new lease of life, remaining in the platform’s Top 10 for four weeks. Filmmakers Ari Mark and Phil Lott not only presented the family's relentless quest for answers but also offered different scenarios, one of which was the abduction and trafficking of the victim.

New witnesses were also revealed, and controversial points of the first investigation were reexamined in the documentary, such as the cruise line's reluctance to make an early announcement or let the passengers get off the ship.

The Netflix docuseries pulled the global limelight onto the case, and investigators have since unearthed three main pieces of evidence, which were all disclosed by The Hollywood Reporter.

The first one highlights a female bartender who was present on the cruise ship during the night when Amy Bradley went missing. This eyewitness is said to have yelled “Señorita kidnapped!” in Spanish at about 1:00 am on March 24, 1998, after claiming to see Amy being involved in some suspicious activities.

The security team ignored her words as she had very restricted English at that time. However, the witness came out after the documentary and is now being questioned by investigators. Her account considerably backs up the notion that Amy was indeed taken from the ship and not that she fell or jumped into the sea.

The second lead is a "highly suspicious" digital hit traced to Amy Bradley’s missing persons website. The site, which her family and investigators were always monitoring closely, noticed the activity coming from an IP address that was associated with a device on a boat in the vicinity of the western coast of Barbados.

The fact that this area has been historically associated with drug and human trafficking makes the finding particularly disturbing. Moreover, the timing of the activity, which was around the holidays, also hints at the possibility of either Amy or her captors monitoring the website. Along with a reported sighting of Amy in Barbados, this has led the FBI to conduct interviews in the locality.

The source tells THR:

“A lot of trafficking of drugs takes place on the water. So that’s obviously highly suspicious.”

The third and by far the most emotionally charged lead is a new piece of information which suggests that Amy could have at least one child that was born to her after her disappearance. The documentary was subtle enough to just raise this possibility, but The Hollywood Reporter corroborates that the developing proof supports the assertion.

If this turns out to be true, it would mean that Amy lived through the incident in 1998 and probably suffered years of being in the underground sex trade. The source clarifies that this is not an indication of a new life chosen by the person but rather a tragic outcome of being subject to coercion and control, thus further implicating organized crime in her disappearance.

The story of the disappearance of Amy Bradley began on March 24, 1998, when she was on a Royal Caribbean cruise with her family. The last time a person on the cruise had seen her was around midnight when she was on the balcony of their cabin, but in the morning her family realized she was missing, together with her cigarettes and lighter.

Although the alerts to the ship's staff and the gradual stopping of passenger disembarkation were made immediately, the announcement to the ship's guests was already made too late since many of them had already left. The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard and private search operations involving helicopters and boats could not find any signs of Amy.

Amy's mother, Iva Bradley, says in the Amy Bradley Is Missing docuseries:

“It’s a really terrible feeling. Let’s say you’re going to go shopping and you’ve got your children with you. The children are playing around underneath all the clothes and you look up and one of the children’s not there. It’s sheer panic. And that feeling is something that doesn’t go away.”

Amy's father, Ron Bradley, went on to say:

“You wake up thinking about it, go to bed thinking about it. It’s just, everything around reminds you of her.”

The family, doubtful of the hypotheses that Amy either fell overboard or died by suicide (considering she was a trained lifeguard and her things were left untouched), explored the theory of her being kidnapped.

Witnesses claimed that Amy was seen dancing with Alister Douglas, a musician in the ship's nightclub, the evening she disappeared, and later in the early morning on the upper deck, where Douglas handed her a dark-colored drink. The family got mixed responses from the FBI, and the entertainer was given an inconclusive polygraph test.

During the years that followed, they have consistently dismissed the idea that Amy's disappearance was a case of accident and have kept the faith that she is alive somewhere.

Iva Bradley mentions in the docuseries:

“Somebody knows something, somebody saw something, somebody heard something, somebody told somebody something. Nobody can keep a secret their entire life.”

The Netflix docuseries has made it possible for the family to tell their story to a bigger audience and has also put forward new theories and discoveries. It highlights the family's unyielding hope and the careful efforts they have put into searching for Amy.

Moreover, the series has spotlighted the institutional flaws in the investigation and has increased the awareness of human trafficking risks on cruise ships.

The family is still hopeful that the day will come when they will find Amy. As her mother says:

“We will never give up on her. In the morning when we wake up, we say, ‘Well maybe today,’ and then when we get ready to go to bed at night we have a special little kiss for Amy, and we say, ‘Maybe tomorrow.’”

Director Ari Mark told TODAY.com:

“How could you not relate to this family or align yourself with their mission, when we all have parents and kids and loved ones. It’s unfathomable to think that somebody that you care so much about would just vanish without any type of why.”

The Netflix docuseries Amy Bradley Is Missing is a three-episode true crime series released in 2025. The series explores various theories about what happened that night, the family's relentless search for answers, and the investigative challenges faced over the years.
