A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is HBO's newest addition to the Game of Thrones Universe. While the show was announced in April 2023 and shooting has wrapped up, fans can expect its release sooner rather than later.
Game of Thrones is adapted from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novella series. Coming from the same universe is Martin's trilogy series, The Tales of Dunk and Egg, set before the events of Game of Thrones.
The three novellas in the series are titled The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight, respectively. All three were then published in a collection under the title A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The show is based on the first novella, which tells the adventures of Sir Duncan the Tall and his squire, 'Egg'.

What is the plot and release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
According to the official logline for the show-
“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg,”
“Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
The story follows the adventures of Sir Duncan the Tall, a hedge Knight, who finds a courageous squire, 'Egg.' They roam the streets of Westeros, where the Targaryens are in the later stages of their rule.
Later, it is revealed that the 'Egg' is Aegon V Targaryen, a king in disguise who wants to learn about the common people while communicating with Westeros's local ladies and men.
He will be protected by Dunk on this journey, who will learn lessons in chivalry and courage, along the way.
Since the shooting for the series has officially wrapped up, it can be expected to be released in 2025, as was announced. However, there is no official release date as of now.
How is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms related to Game of Thrones?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set 72 years after The House of Dragons and some 90 years before the Game of Thrones.
The series is set in the fictional world of Westeros, which was originally seven kingdoms, all united by Aegon the Conqueror, a Targaryen. The show is set before all the houses begin their fight for the Iron Throne.
According to Martin, while the show is set in the same political and social landscape as GOT, it will have a completely different tone.
The atmosphere of Game of Thrones was fueled by tensions and the fight between houses; the prequel series will take a simpler tone, a time when things were calm and the people lived in harmony.
