OWN's Maxxed Out premiered on January 10, 2025.

The show featured Leah Collins helping individuals' friends and family through their financial collapse.

Each episode features various individuals going through extreme financial situations. Financial expert and coach Leah helps them navigate through these circumstances.

In her January 6, 2026, interview with The Black Wall Street Times, Leah Collins discussed how she started the show.

"It started years ago. I made a lot of money, but I had nothing to show for it, so I just locked down and got serious about paying off my debt, and I paid off $40,000 worth of debt in 18 months. After that, people noticed what was happening, and they kept reaching out to me for advice. So at that point, I decided to start a business helping other people do the same thing," shared Leah.

Maxxed Out: Leah Collins reflects on her journey and repaying her debt

In her latest interview, Leah Collins shared that years ago, she made a "lot of money." At the time, she had nothing to show for it. She started repaying her debt and paid off around $40,000 in 18 months. Since that time, she had also helped some individuals after they approached her for help.

Soon, she realized and started her business by helping other people. Further, Leah recalled going through two significant events throughout her life. She was engaged to her long-term boyfriend. However, they called their engagement off a month before their wedding, citing financial incompatibility.

"We ended up calling it off about a month before the wedding due to financial incompatibility. Looking back, we just never navigated those uncomfortable conversations...we didn’t know how," said Maxxed Out's Leah.

She added that there were many individuals who were going through similar situations. There were many couples who called off their weddings for similar reasons.

"I realized there were a lot of people that were in the same situation, and a lot of them had already actually gotten married, so they were having these money issues within their marriage. A lot of people were divorcing because of finances," shared Leah.

Later on, she gave birth to a daughter and thought about helping women and families to build their generational wealth.

While thinking about leaving a legacy for her daughter, Maxxed Out's Leah got started on that idea. She talked about asset protection and passing them down to the upcoming generations. As a result, they wouldn't have to continue struggling over and over again.

Sharing more about the show, Leah noted that there were many systemic issues when it comes to the generational wealth gap. The show addresses those issues and helps individuals pass to their children. Leah enjoyed doing the same with her daughter, and at the same time, helping others to break the cycles of survival mode.
