These Black Mirror characters come from a world that has been overrun by technology, and therefore, it is interesting to see how normal and innocent-looking people behave in dystopian circumstances. From the downright villainous to the weirdly complex and interesting, here are 10 Black Mirror characters that one would like to hang out with—only for educational purposes!


Robert Daly, Catherine, and other Black Mirror characters that are interesting

1. Lacie Pound

Played by Bryce Dallas Howard, Lacie Pound is one of the most interesting Black Mirror characters from the series. The character appears in the episode “Nosedive," and the premise of the episode makes Lacie an interesting character. The episode focuses on a world where people can rate each other on a scale of 1 to 5 from their phones, based on the interactions they have with each other. However, the truly dystopian part is that these ratings influence a person’s socioeconomic status as well. In the episode, Lacie starts off as a sweet and cheery girl who ends up having a harrowing day as she falls into unfortunate situations one after the other and her rating continues to go down, further affecting her access to social benefits. It would be interesting to hang out with such weirdly interesting Black Mirror characters as Lacie is relatable. She faces the pressures and insecurities that we all face in the digital age. In a society driven by external validation, her breakdown and struggles ring true.


2. Cooper Redfield

Cooper Redfield is one of the most interesting Black Mirror characters and is played by Wyatt Russell. The character appears in the episode “Playtest” and has a tremendous character arc. Cooper initially comes across as a carefree and annoyingly cheery American traveler who is in London and is coming to terms with his father’s death from Alzheimer’s in his own way. However, his life changes when he decides to participate in a new augmented reality test game for the company SaitoGemu, which causes his reality and imagination to blur and changes him forever. The episode highlights the impact that hyperreal technology can have on our subconscious. Even though most of the episode focuses on Cooper playing the game, his character turns out to be full of unresolved grief and complex family dynamics, and therefore, he becomes three-dimensional. He undergoes a horrifying journey as he plays the game, and therefore, he is one of the weirdly interesting Black Mirror characters, as he has had a change in personality.


3. Rolo Haynes

Played by Douglas Hodge, Rolo Haynes is one of the most dangerously interesting Black Mirror characters on the show. The character appears in the episode “Black Museum," and Rolo proves how technology can amplify the wrongs of a person even further. He is the person who leads the protagonist through the exhibits of his museum. Rolo is a white supremacist who blends his racist ideologies into the technology he is developing. While tech creators are shown as executing designs for consumers, Rolo is the one who runs the preliminary trials. However, Rolo knows that testing will have a negative impact; therefore, he preys on individuals who are desperate and uses sweet and cunning language to get them into his trap and take advantage of their struggles. Therefore, Rolo is one of the most dangerous and evil Black Mirror characters, and it would be interesting to hang out with him and delve into his mind deeper.


4. Robert Daly

Robert Daly is another one of the dangerously interesting Black Mirror characters who appears in the episode “USS Callister." Played by Jesse Plemons, Robert is an introverted game developer and is the co-founder of Callister Inc. Robert is someone who has a reclusive lifestyle and has a lot of bullies even though he is at the top position. Therefore, fueled by hatred, Robert creates an initial version of a game called Infinity, which creates digitally sentient clones of all the co-workers who troubled him in the real world. In the game, the true colors of Robert come to life as he exposes himself to be a cruel and sadistic person at heart. He feeds his repressed desires and manic side by physically and psychologically torturing the co-workers in the game. He even clones his arch enemy’s son and throws him out of the ship. The episode highlights how technology gives people freedom to exhibit their inner desires and how it can turn out to be devastating instead of cathartic. Therefore, Robert is one of the dangerously interesting Black Mirror characters.


5. Matt Trent

Played by Jon Hamm, Matt Trent is also one of the more interesting Black Mirror characters to date in the show. Matt appears in the episode, “White Christmas," which focuses on two people being buried in an isolated cabin during winter and telling each other stories. However, Matt proves that he has a propensity for using manipulative and self-centered tactics for his own benefit. While he doesn’t use violence, he uses mind games to control the other person. Matt uses various strategies to protect himself. He aids and abets his colleague’s murder-suicide, he becomes friends with Joe Potter to get a confession and get absolved of his own crimes, and he cruelly trains cookies at his former job. Therefore, Matt is one of the weirdly interesting Black Mirror characters that one would like to hang out with, only to understand their twisted mind.


6. Catherine

Catherine is a character that appears in the episode “Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too.” Played by Susan Pourfar, Catherine is one of the prime antagonists that appears in the series. She plays the selfish and money-hungry aunt and manager of Ashley. Caterine is someone who can go to great lengths to secure her interests, and she therefore uses her niece as a pawn and capitalizes on her. She constantly gives Ashley drugs to subdue her and releases an AI doll that has Ashley’s consciousness, while the real Ashley is put into a coma by Catherine. The episode is full of glamor, and yet behind the sparkly world, there is a dark truth. While Ashley symbolically comes back from the grave to take revenge on Catherine, she is one of the weirdly interesting Black Mirror characters that one would like to get to know more and find out the root cause of all her evil and selfishness.


7. Carlton Bloom

The first episode of the first season of Black Mirror is still one of the most memorable. Carlton Bloom is the main antagonist of the episode, and the episode focuses on the British Prime Minister Michael Callow, who must commit a bestial act in order to free Princess Susannah from her abductors. The episode focuses on themes like nationalism, pride, and the growth of technology, which can trap even the most powerful people. However, it is later revealed that the person behind all of this national sensationalism was Carlton Bloom, who is an artist and wanted to do this to highlight the people’s obsession with the media, and he therefore created this entire ruse to create a creative expression. The episode therefore questions how far one can go in the name of art, and Carlton Bloom is one of the weirdly complex Black Mirror characters whom one would like to know more.


8. Kenny

Played by Alex Lawther, Kenny appears in the episode “Shut Up and Dance.” Kenny is one of the more interesting Black Mirror characters, as he is an unsuspecting villain in the episode. Initially, he comes of as an innocent young boy who is being asked to carry out a series of dangerous tasks by internet hackers who are threatening him with webcam footage of him masturbating to pornography. However, the tables turn soon and Kenny, who seemed like an innocent man, is revealed to be a villain as he was masturbating to child pornography. Therefore, Kenny turns out to be one of the most despicable people in the show. The episode highlights how quickly internet hackers can get a hold of one’s life and how even the most innocent people have a dark side to them. Therefore, Kenny is one of the dangerously interesting Black Mirror characters.


9. Kelly

One of the most popular and iconic episodes from Black Mirror, Kelly appears in the episode “San Junipero" and has become one of the most interesting Black Mirror characters in the show. She is not dangerous, but she is headstrong and sure of herself and has a dangerous zeal to live life. The episode celebrates LGBTQ+ love in the afterlife as Kelly meets Yorkie, and the two decide to stream their consciousness after death so that they can live happily together. Kelly is interesting because she stays true to herself and represents a Black LGBTQ+ character in the sci-fi world. She has many changes in the episode as she is always sure of herself but suddenly finds a part of herself that was missing in Yorkie and eventually finds peace. Her character teaches a lot to the viewers, and in the desolate world of the show, Kelly is one motivating character who is interesting and dangerous in a good manner. Therefore, she is one of the interesting Black Mirror characters.


10. Mia Nolan

Played by Andrea Riseborough, Mia appears in the episode “Crocodile” and leaves a mark. She is one of the most insidiously dangerous Black Mirror characters and is therefore an interesting one. The episode focuses on Mia’s partner, Rob, coming out after 15 years and threatening Mia that he will tell everyone that she helped dispose of a body in a hit-and-run case. The innocent Mia soon turns evil and kills Rob. However, she does not stop, and when a new technology called a Recaller is applied to Mia, her murder comes to the fore. Therefore, Mia kills the insurance investigator, her husband, and her son as well. However, a guinea pig turns out to be the last nail in her coffin. Therefore, Mia is one of the most dangerously interesting Black Mirror characters, and getting to know what goes on inside her head would be extremely interesting.
