Who would have thought that one Twitch chat message would bring back a 2020 controversy? While streaming recently on 4th April, Pokimane responded to a vintage comment from creator Jasontheween that seemed to be defending Fedmyster, a former OfflineTV member who was ousted from the group after serious accusations.

Yes, that Fedmyster controversy—the one that shook the Twitch community in 2020—is now back in the public eye. And no, this is not another bout of online drama for page views. It's a resurgence of unfixed tension that previously divided viewers, creators, and friends alike.

So, what was the 2020 Fedmyster scandal? Let's get into it. Fedmyster, whose real name is Federico Michael Gaytan, was cut from OfflineTV after several women, including Pokimane and Yvonne, accused him of his behavior being inappropriate. That involved unwanted physical touching and manipulative behavior in the creator's house.

OfflineTV issued a public statement then, and Fedmyster also issued a 25-page defense of himself afterward, ratcheting the controversy up another notch. It was intense, divisive, and left a lasting imprint on Twitch culture.

Here's a video of Pokimane addressing Fedmyster being kicked out and her side of the story:

The 2020 Fedmyster controversy: A recap

The Fedmyster scandal was launched mid-way in 2020 when the OfflineTV crew of content creators publicly released an official statement in which Fedmyster was said to have been expelled due to reported misbehavior. According to Thesportsrush, Yvonnie and Pokimane, who were influential members of the crew, would eventually produce public statements citing firsthand accounts based on his transgressive conduct within private boundaries, while the pair had lived within the OfflineTV abode.

Yvonne shared a few occasions when Fed purportedly went into her room unexpectedly late at night and slept in her bed without permission. Pokimane also revealed that Fed had made her doubt the people in the house, resulting in mistrust and tension. This was backed by other OfflineTV members, who presented a solid front to authenticate the move to distance themselves from him.

The 25-page google doc and Fedmyster's side

Months after the accusations, Fedmyster posted a 25-page Google document trying to present his side of things. The document contained screenshots of old conversations, timelines, and descriptions of what he thought went down. He admitted that he made errors but claimed that some of the events were being distorted.

Although his motive might have been to clarify, the document created another round of outrage. It was regarded by most fans and producers as a move to hijack the narrative or discredit the experiences of the participants. The letter also rekindled public interest in the drama, bringing OfflineTV back into the limelight.

This document split the internet. While many rallied behind Fedmyster, others redoubled their efforts of support for Pokimane, Yvonnie, and the remaining members of OfflineTV. The drama generated broad discussion throughout the platforms including Reddit, Twitter, and YouTube, making it among the most remembered Twitch dramas of the year.

Jasontheween's twitch comment and Pokimane's reaction

Fast forward to 2025—Pokimane was reviewing old chats and noticed a resurfaced Twitch chat comment from fellow creator Jasontheween that appeared to be in favor of Fedmyster at the peak of the controversy.

She read out his comment,

"FED. U PLAYED FED."

She was shocked by the comments from Jasontheween and exclaimed,

"Jason, I really. I don't even know what to say, man."

But realising that Jasontheween has grown and changed in the last few years, she added,

"Okay, I will say, for Jason to go from writing sh*t like this to what he is today, that's growth. Jason's sweet, I forgive him, I don't even give a f**k."

Her response sent shockwaves online. Fans discussed whether Jasontheween's remark was out of context or represented a wider opinion held by certain creators at the time in 2020. Others highlighted the extent to which the environment on Twitch and content creation has evolved since then, so the emergence of such statements is even harder to interpret now.

Whereas the Twitch universe keeps moving at lightning speed, controversies like that of Fedmyster leave us with questions that aren't easily answered. Pokimane's recent response wasn't merely over an old chat message; it was a flashback to a traumatic period that shifted the dynamics of a community.

Additionally, whether or not Jasontheween meant to make a statement back in the day, certainly, the internet doesn't forget—especially when it comes to drama that once polarized an entire platform.
