Gawr Gura appeared on a YouTube livestream titled Important Announcement on April 16, 2025, to inform fans that she was leaving Hololive. The popular virtual entertainment figure cited creative disagreements and management issues as reasons for her departure from the group.
After apologizing to fans for the sad news of her departure, she revealed that she had been planning her exit for quite some time:
“This has been a very long time coming, but today I am here to announce that I will be graduating from Hololive on May 1, 2025, JST. My reasons being disagreement with management and company direction.”
Four minutes and twenty-seven seconds into the video, Gawr Gura recounted how severe stress from working schedules had resulted in a hunger strike for her:
“I remember there being many days that the stress was so overwhelming that I couldn’t eat or keep food down,”
She added that it was the support of her fans that kept her going:
“But the continuous support of my wonderful community helped to lessen that feeling and pushed me to go on to do things that I didn’t even know I was capable of.”

Gawr Gura expressed that she was grateful for her experience with Hololive and added that her almost five-year career as a Vtuber had pulled her out of her shell:
“You helped pull me out of my shell, and I went from being too scared to sing alone in my shower to singing live in front of hundreds and thousands of people. When I think about how many of you I’ve been able to connect with, it brings me so much joy.”
Gawr Gura launched a career with Hololive English in September 2020 alongside Mori Calliope, Ninomae Ina’nis, Takanashi Kiara, and Watson Amelia. They were Hololive EN’s first-generation Holo-Myth.
Her shark-themed persona and global appeal made her rise quickly through the ranks to become the most subscribed virtual YouTuber, with over 4 million subscribers on the platform. She helped promote Hololive’s international reputation through conventions, concerts, and other digital events.
Gawr Gura’s departure has left fans heartbroken. Thousands commented under her live-streamed video that they were going to miss her on Hololive.
The V-tuber’s exit from Hololive comes after other English talents from the organization, including Ceres Fauna, Nanashi Mumei, Tsukumo Sana, and Amelia Watson, announced their exits. Gawr Gura’s final stream will take place on May 1, 2025.
