Sydney Sweeney has responded to the heavy criticism she received after her infamous Dr. Squatch Bathwater soap. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal published on August 20, 2025, the actress described the condemnation of her soap ad as hypocritical.

She adding that her costar in Euphoria, Jacob Elordi, didn’t receive the same treatment when he sold something akin to Bathwater in January 2024.

“It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting. They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”

For context, Elordi starred as Felix in the movie Saltburn and in one scene, Oliver, a character played by Barry Keoghan, obsessed with Felix, slurps the latter’s bathwater. Amid the media attention around the Bathwater scene, Jacob Elordi released a Bathwater candle that became a viral sensation and inspired memes.

Sydney Sweeney sold her limited-edition bathwater-infused soap called Bathwater Bliss in June 2025:

“You kept asking about my bathwater after the @drsquatch ad... so we kept it. Introducing Sydney's Bathwater Bliss! A very real, very limited-edition soap made with my actual bathwater. Available on 6/6/25 at drsquatch.com”

The actress’s bathwater soap was met with heavy backlash.

The 27-year-old actress seems to always be the subject of wagging tongues for one reason or the other. For her movie, Anyone But You, she and fellow actor Glen Powell tried to promote the film with different activities and were criticized by netizens because they were with other people at the time.

The actors maintained that they were just friends. In the interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sweeney stated that her relationship with Powell was blown out of proportion by fans and gossip blogs:

“We wanted everything to be an activity. And then the audience and the people were the ones who created all the other narratives."

Glen Powell’s former fiancé, Gigi Paris, commented on the romance rumours that were spreading at the time:

“I just wanted respect, especially if it’s gonna be public,” Paris said on a June episode of the “Too Much” podcast. “Like, don’t make an a** out of me. Like, just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years, talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know?

In another news, Sydney Sweeney and Powell are keeping news about a possible sequel to the movie, Anyone But You under wraps.
