On April 16, 2025, Hololive officially confirmed that Gawr Gura would be leaving their virtual production company, and other streamers reacted to the news on X. Hololive, via an official statement on X, informed fans that the V-Tuber would be graduating on May 1, 2025.
The statement thanked fans for their unwavering support of Gawr Gura and noted that they respected her decision to embark on a new chapter:
“Since her debut as a member of Hololive English -Myth- five years ago, Gura has touched the hearts of fans around the world, become a beloved face for Tubing in its early stages, and played an instrumental role in the growth of hololive production,”
They added:
"To all the fans who have shown their unwavering love and support, we sincerely thank you. While we understand that this news may be difficult for many, we deeply respect and support Gura's decision as she begins her next chapter."

More tributes poured in from streamers, thanking the popular virtual character for making V-Tubing popular and paving the way for others:

Others found the consecutive exits of Hololive’s English creators suspicious and expressed the following:

Gawr Gura reveals that management issues and creative disagreements caused her exit from Hololive
In a YouTube livestream titled Important Announcement on April 16, 2025, Gawr Gura shared the news of her exit from Hololive. The Virtual creator revealed to fans that she had been planning to leave the production company for some time and cited management issues as one of the reasons:
“This has been a very long time coming, but today I am here to announce that I will be graduating from Hololive on May 1, 2025, JST. My reasons being disagreement with management and company direction.”
Gawr Gura also recounted how extreme stress had caused her to be overwhelmed and unable to eat or keep food down. She, however, thanked fans for getting her through those days with their love and support.
The popular V-Tuber expressed gratitude for her time with Hololive and added that her time on the screen pulled her out of her shell and connected her with many fans.
Gawr Gura’s career with Hololive English began in September 2020 with other creators, including Takanashi Kiara, Watson Amelia, Mori Calliope, and Ninomae Ina’nis. As a first-generation member of Hololive EN, she grew popular for her shark-themed and funny personality.
She became the most subscribed virtual YouTuber with over 4 million subscribers and has played a major role in promoting Hololive in the international community.
Following Gawr Gura’s announcement of her decision to leave Hololive, it was reported that the shares of Cover Corporation, the company in charge of Hololive, had plummeted by approximately 10%. Gura’s announcement follows the departure of other popular creators in the company, including Amelia Watson and Minato Aqua.
