Budding influencer Lady Mo, born Moses Sibiya, has died at the age of 33.
He was reportedly slain in a car crash. As of this writing, further details remain unclear, though local news outlets have reported that the collision was between a minibus taxi and a Kia Picanto.
It took place on the KaNyamazane road off the MRTT. Moses Sibiya was promptly rushed to the Rob Ferreira Hospital, where he succumbed. Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med was the one who responded to the scene of the accident.
Moses Sibiya is most known as an entertainer and funeral singer. His videos have amassed substantial views. He can be seen entertaining those in mourning at funerals and celebrating events. He also released a song called Dumi Dumi Dumi and was building a career as an MC ahead of his demise.
"This all happened by coincidence," he told Drum in June 2022 of his career. "I would attend funerals and while singing, people would take videos of me and post them on social media. I wasn't aware until friends started showing my videos going viral," he said. "It only when I saw Bongani Litswele, who has since become my manager, take my voice and turn it into a song that I realized I could make a living out of what I do."
He said he's always had an affinity for singing and engaged in several different choirs in high school.
"I didn't think I could make a career out of it. But it's really the funeral stuff that has made things possible for me. I grew up singing in school and doing choral music. I only saw it was possible when Bongani produced the song."
Moses Sibiya's tragic slaying explored as friends mourn his demise:
While this information has yet to be confirmed, Lowvelder has reported that Jeffrey said that five of the occupants in Kia's car sustained injuries and had been tended to medically at the scene before they were transported to the hospital. However, the driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
SNL 24 has reported that three people have since passed, with two of them succumbing at the hospital. As of this writing, the names of these victims remain unclear, as does their relation to Moses Sibiya.
Per the outlet, the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, has confirmed the influencer's demise. Mmusi also revealed that the road had been shut off for some time while emergency services tended to the scene of the incident, though it opened up by the afternoon.
DJ Lamiez Holworthy took to social media following the announcement to mourn Moses Sibiya. In a post on Instagram, she penned:
"My heart is broken. My last post on instagram was literally about him. I however ask people stop sharing the videos of his car accident, not only is it inhumane and disgusting that someone's death is quick to become content. I don't think it is fair on Lady Mo's friends and family to see their loved one along with everyone else who passed on in that tragic accident, and in that light. May we remember Moses for the love and the laughter he shared with us all. Rest easy, my love."
As of this writing, investigations are reportedly underway, and the memorial and celebration of life services have yet to be announced.
