Sketch artist Jane Rosenberg had a key role in Sean "Diddy" Combs’ trial. While photos and videos from the proceedings inside the courtroom were not available to the audience, all they were left with were sketches.
As per her website, Rosenberg was a student at the State University of NY, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts. Her career initially started off as a portrait artist, but she then moved to sketch courtroom proceedings.
To view her work, one can visit Philadelphia’s The Museum of the Constitution and New York’s The Museum of Television and Radio.
According to People Magazine, Jane Rosenberg was the sketch artist for several high-profile trials, including those of Martha Stewart, Derek Chauvin, Bill Cosby, John Gotti, and others. In an interview with the magazine, she said that when the proceedings in the court were underway, Diddy told her to make him look soft. She said:
“And he said, ‘You made me look like a koala bear.’”
Jane Rosenberg said she also had an interaction with Combs’ mother, Janice. According to the sketch artist:
“In the elevator, they were saying, 'Thank you for being such an unbiased artist,'" Rosenberg said. "And I told them, 'Today, Diddy said I made him look like a koala bear.’ And they all started chuckling.”
What did Jane Rosenberg say about Diddy getting scolded by the judge in the courtroom?
On June 11, 2025, Rosenberg spoke to CBS New York, where she was asked if Diddy told her anything about the sketches. She said during the lunch break, while she was seated on the front row, Combs turned to her and gestured something with his hands near his face.
Jane Rosenberg couldn’t understand what he tried to say. In her words, the Marshal, who stood between her and Diddy, said:
“He said you need to soften him up and then I turned to him, then I could hear cause everybody stopped talking and he said, ‘You gotta soften me up a bit. I look like koala bear.’”
Jane Rosenberg said she did not know what a koala bear looked like, so she did an internet search of the animal. She said:
“And I could see the white goatee and a koala bear. Maybe that’s why people have thought that around him. Somebody said that it was tweeted out that he did look like a koala bear but I don’t know.”
When asked if she adjusted her sketches, she replied in the negative. The reporter then inquired about the incident when the judge had to reprimand Diddy for nodding at the jury members. She asked if Rosenberg noticed anything, as she had to keep her eyes on Combs for the sketches. The artist said:
“I have seen him nodding and shaking his head ‘no’ and ‘yes’ a lot, agreeing with the witness or disagreeing a lot. And then the judge scolded him and maybe he skipped a day or two but today he is back at the nodding and the shaking his head.”
Reflecting on the reception of her previous work, Jane Rosenberg told People Magazine that Giuliani once told her she made him look like his dog. Weinstein asked her to draw him with more hair. Trump once looked at one of her drawings and joked that he needed to lose some weight.
