The esports and entertainment brand, FaZe Clan (also known as FaZe House) was recently swatted as part of a prank. The term 'swatting' comes from the unit of specialized police force in the US, also referred to as SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics). According to Cloudflare, this is the definition of swatting:
"Swatting refers to a harassment technique most often perpetrated by members of the online gaming community. Swatting entails generating an emergency law enforcement response against a target victim under false pretenses. Swatters do this by making phone calls to emergency lines like 911 and falsely reporting a violent emergency situation, such as a shooting or hostage situation."
The purpose of swatting is to merely play a prank on the streamer. However, it can have serious consequences such as prison time, violence, and financial waste of up to $10,000 for one swatting.
More details about FaZe House's swatting experience
The swatting incident happened at the FaZe House when two members of the clan were livestreaming. Rani "StableRonaldo" and Alexander "Adapt" were playing the new Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3. Both the streamers were seen leaving their room and muting the stream.
When they realized they were being swatted, StableRonaldo asked,
"Oh, we're getting swatted. Can I put on pants?" - he asked the officers.
While Adapt was talking to their viewers saying,
"Oh yeah, we're getting swatted. Hold on. I'll be right back. This is insane. I have to mute, I have to mute." - Adapt stated.
However, another FaZe House member also came online to talk about the swatting incident. Even though Jason "Jasontheween" was not streaming at the time, the police did come into his room to do what they were called for.
During a live stream after the police left, Jasontheween talked to his viewers expressing how the swatting incident left his room in a mess. He said,
"I did see that bro. They definitely walked through my room because all my clothes are on the ground, my PC was shuffled, and there's bullsh*t on the ground. Yo, police, can y'all at least be respectful and put it back?"
He continued to hold his ground by adding,
"I understand y'all doing your job but f**k man. Like, I didn't do anything. Like, could you put it back? They tossed all my clothes that I put in the laundry basket and then just tossed it on the ground."
The person who called in the swatting on FaZe House is yet to be identified. However, some netizens were not impressed with this little prank, saying the caller should be punished.
