Concerns about Joe Biden's health continue to intensify after the former president's representative issued a health update this week.
The Guardian has reported that Biden, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May, is currently undergoing radiation therapy, a spokesperson said on Saturday morning.
“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment," they announced.
The newest round of treatment is expected to span five weeks and marks a new step in his treatment. Before that, he had been ingesting hormonal medication in the form of pills, as he previously told the public when he discussed his illness this spring.
Joe Biden's health struggles explored:
Joe Biden, 82, also reportedly underwent a procedure known as Mohs surgery this September in an attempt to extract the cancerous cells from his skin. The National Institute of Health (NIH) states that the surgery is a method of skin cancer removal, and it yields “high cure rates."
Per NBC, following the procedure, his physician issued a memo that “all cancerous tissue was successfully removed” and that “no further treatment is required.”
The former president was seen greeting people over Labor Day weekend in Delaware with a visible wound on his forehead.
Back in May, when he disclosed his cancer diagnosis, the Democratic leader said in a statement that the ailment was aggressive but hormone-sensitive.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” the statement read.
Kelly Scully, his representative, divulged that the cancer had metastasized to his bones and that it was “characterized by a Gleason score of 9," indicating a highly aggressive form of cancer. The ailment was reportedly diagnosed after a "small nodule" was discovered on his prostate, per People Magazine.
Joe Biden, who turns 83 next month, shared a selfie of himself, his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, and their cat at the time with the following caption:
"Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support."
His announcement came weeks after his health became a focal point during the 2024 presidential elections. At the time, oncologists told NBC that, given the severity of Joe Biden's cancer, it is possible that the ailment had gone undiagnosed for years.
