American rapper Nipsey Hussle's former partner, Tanisha Foster, was given joint custody of their daughter Emani. After Hussle died in 2019, his family and Foster were involved in a legal tussle over the custody issue.
However, on March 11, 2025, the court granted joint custody. As a result, Hussle's brother, Samiel Asghedom, is a legal guardian and one of the parties to Emani's custody. Nipsey Hussle has two children. He is also the father of Kross, who was born to Lauren London.
According to NewsX, Emani will spend 60% of her time with her mother and 40% with her uncle Sam. As part of the agreement, Hussle's sister Samantha and mother Angelique will step down as co-guardians.
Foster and Hussle's brother will have equal decision-making authority over Emani's education, health, and overall well-being. She will remain at the same school, and divide her time between the households. Previously, Tanisha had also requested a deposition from Samiel, but the judge denied her request.
After initially being placed under the care of the rapper's family due to concerns about her living situation with Tanisha Foster, a legal battle over guardianship ensued. Foster had previously agreed to give up guardianship due to financial struggles but later claimed the family made it difficult for her to stay connected with her daughter.
She alleged they used their financial influence to limit her involvement and access. With this decision, Nipsey's daughter will reportedly continue living in the same environment while allowing her mother to have a more significant role.
More about the legal struggle over Nipsey Hussle's daughter's custody and the split of assets in 2023
In 2019, the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services became involved in the legal case regarding the custody of Nipsey Hussle's daughter. Officials attended a court hearing, and a decision on the child's permanent residence was expected.
Samantha had already filed for full guardianship, with support from Sam. However, in a statement to the court, Tanisha Foster also voiced her desire to be involved in her daughter's life.
According to Revolt, the case was reassigned to a different judge, and a new hearing was scheduled for May 17, 2019. Foster's lawyer, Larry Lewellyn, revealed that his client had not seen her daughter for months and requested a private visit. The judge granted the same for a 20-minute duration.
Lewellyn also stated that while the child primarily lived with Nipsey Hussle before his death, he never restricted access to her mother. He emphasized that Foster had full legal rights as the child's mother.
In 2023, Nipsey Hussle's two children were named the sole heirs of his estate after his death. According to People magazine, legal documents confirmed that his assets were divided between his son Kross, and Emani. Since Emani was a minor back then, her legal guardians, including Sam, managed her share of assets.
The assets included a 2012 Chevy Suburban, full ownership of All Money Inc., Marathon Studios, The Marathon Touring, and several other businesses. Together, they were valued at over $11 million.
