Jeffrey A. Schottenstein, the son of the chairman of American Eagle Outfitters, has reportedly ended his marriage. The move comes days after he reportedly slandered her as a mother in public.

The son of CEO Jay Schottenstein, 40, has reportedly filed for a divorce from Ariella Schottenstein, 38, days after an audio tape of him telling their former bodyguard that she was "unfit to be a mother." The tape came to light amid a May 2024 complaint from the bodyguard, Rock Pereira, who sued Ariella after she fired him.

According to The Daily Beast, Jeffrey A. Schottenstein rang up Pereira after he learned of the firing, only to slam his then-pregnant wife:

"Going to a doctor's appointment three weeks before she's pregnant and firing someone for no cause, that is unfit to be a mother in my eyes," he remarked in a tape shared by The New York Post.

Jeffrey A. Schottenstein and Ariella Schottenstein's legal troubles explored:

The New York Post has reported that Jeffrey A. Schottenstein and Ariella Schottenstein have been battling it out in court since May 15, when the latter filed a contested matrimonial action against her former husband in Manhattan Supreme Court. Just this week, the clothing scion filed his own litigation against her.

The pair reportedly got engaged in March 2022, having tied the knot at a ceremony at Cipriani 25 Broadway three months later. However, things reportedly took a turn when Jeffrey's comments about his wife leaked.

“After the baby’s born, I’m gonna have to make — I will not let my kids see this fighting,” he said in the audio. “No f—ing way,” Schottenstein said. “And it is tearing me apart, Rock. … But there’s people I’m going to be contacting, if you understand what I’m saying. Because I ain’t putting up with this s–t. No, no f—ing way. So I’m gonna need your help, Rock.”

Per the outlet, Pereira, 46, opted for a Division of Human Rights complaint against Jeffrey A. Schottenstein and his wife, alleging that Ariella hounded him and degraded him during the eight months that he worked for them. She allegedly told him,

“you walk the dog, you feed the dog, you bring the dog to the vet, you pay the bills, you go buy diapers."

She even allegedly had him foot an $1,289.33 veterinarian's bill for her dog, without reimbursing him.

“The way Ariella is, the way I was treated, no one should be treated this way,” Pereira told The Post.

At the time, a spokesperson for the pair told the outlet,

“It’s reprehensible that someone would seek to exploit impulsive comments taken out of context for their own personal gain through a baseless claim.”

As of this writing, the status of Pereira's case remains unclear.
