Sean Diddy Combs’ trial is drawing to an end as the jury found the music executive not guilty on the charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. In the Manhattan Court on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the Bad Boy records boss pumped his fists and dropped to his knees after the jury consisting of eight men and four women found him guilty of the minor charge of transportation to engage in prostitution and not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking.
After the verdict was read, Combs' lawyer applied for the defendant to be granted bail and permission for his client to travel to Los Angeles, Florida, and New York City before his sentencing. Agnifilo offered a bond of one million dollars for his client's immediate release, adding that it could be paid on the same day.
Judge Arun, amidst objection from the prosecution on the bail, directed that the court reconvene at 1:00 pm for the lawyers on the opposing sides to make their arguments for or against Diddy’s release on bail. Judge Subramanian denied the defence’s bail request and ordered him to return to prison to await sentencing.
The judge added that he had dismissed Diddy’s bail application at the beginning of the trial and saw no reason to uphold it now. He highlighted that the defendant had a propensity for violence.
Attorney for Dawn Richard calls the jury’s decision in Diddy’s trial a disappointment
Following the jury’s decision to find the embattled music mogul guilty on only two of the five charges brought against him, Lisa Bloom, attorney to Dawn Richards expressed disappointment on behalf of her client. Dawn Richards was one of the prosecution’s 34 witnesses and she was a former member of the musical group Danity Kane, formed by Combs.
Lisa Bloom said in a statement on behalf of Dawn:
"Today’s split verdict is a disappointment, but the criminal charges are different than the civil claims we filed and have been fighting against Sean Combs. We will continue to aggressively fight our case until we obtain full and complete justice for Dawn.”
Cassie Ventura, the prosecution’s star witness, sent a letter through her lawyer to Judge Arun Subramanian urging him to deny Combs' request for immediate bail before his sentencing. A part of the letter read:
“Ms. Ventura believes that Mr. Combs is likely to pose a danger to the victims who testified in this case, including herself, as well as to the community.”
Although Sean Diddy Combs was acquitted of the most serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, he faces up to 20 years in prison as the maximum sentence for each of the two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution is ten years each. Judge Subramanian has proposed October 3, 2025, as the sentencing date.
