On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, a split verdict was announced in the music mogul, Diddy, also known as Sean Combs' sex trafficking and racketeering trial. The verdict was then followed by other developments, including the judge denying bail.
Previously, on July 1, the jurors had announced the guilty verdicts for the two Mann Act counts and cleared him on two sex trafficking charges, leaving only the racketeering decision pending. However, on Wednesday, the jury convicted the music mogul on the two minor counts and found him not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking, as reported by USA Today.
The trial had begun back in May, and the jury deliberations had begun on May 30, 2025.
Key highlights of Diddy's July 2 trial
On Wednesday, the court began deliberation with the jury, but they soon reached a verdict. After the verdict was read out, the defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, called for Diddy to be released on $1 million bond while awaiting sentencing.
The bail was, however, denied by the judge. The lawyer of the high-profile celebrity Cassie Ventura, who was also Diddy's former girlfriend and the star witness of the prosecutor, submitted a letter to the judge asking him to deny the defense request. The judge cited the reason behind his denying the bail as 'Combs disregard for the rule of law and a propensity for violence,' as per CNN.
Following the verdict and the bail denial, the Judge scheduled a remote hearing for Tuesday at 2 p.m. (ET) to discuss the sentencing. Combs' team said they want to speed up the sentencing and also said that they are willing to skip a pre-sentencing investigation.
The prosecutors, however, disagreed and said that since the case is complex and since both teams have different views on how long Combs' sentencing should be, the court needs a full investigation before deciding on the sentence.
Cassie's lawyer praised her, saying that it was because of her that the jurors were able to find Diddy guilty on some charges. The reaction to the verdict was also seen outside the court, where people were seen spraying baby oil, a disturbing reference to the freak-offs, which were described as the drug-fuelled sessions in hotel rooms in the court.
Diddy's trial was nearly two months long, and during the trial, prosecutors presented almost 30 witnesses, including Diddy's former girlfriends, former employees, and special agents to give testimonies. The trial also included presenting evidence in the form of text messages, videos, audio, financial records, etc.
Combs is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, since his arrest in September 2024. Because of Combs celebrity status, shocking allegations, and the surveillance video leaks, his case stayed in the spotlight for weeks.
