Sunwoo, the main rapper from the South Korean boy band The Boyz, has been receiving tons of backlash online for an alleged incident where he was rude to a security guard. The negative reactions came pouring in after a video clip of Sunwoo dropping his AirPods surfaced. In the clip, after the rapper dropped his AirPods, he can be heard saying, "My AirPods". A security guard went to pick them up and gave them back to Sunwoo.

The act that angered netizens was the fact that the rapper took the AirPods from the security guard with just one hand. Netizens thought the action lacked gratitude and was seen as disrespectful in South Korean culture. In South Korea, it is considered to be impolite to not use both hands while giving and receiving something.

However, Sunwoo has addressed the incident and the situation by saying:

"even behind the scenes I would never act like that".

How did Sunwoo address his fans and netizens regarding the alleged disrespectful incident?

The Boyz's main rapper came on a fan messaging platform to clear the air on April 12, 2025. He wrote that he:

"understand[s] how it looks like I took it without bowing or showing manners... I was looking for it with my eyes and couldn’t find it... When it was handed to me, I did say ‘thank you’ but didn’t bow. I’ll make sure to act properly so these misunderstandings don’t happen again," the rapper explained to his fans.

However, that was not it. On April 13, 2025, he gave further clarification. He said:

"Even behind the scenes I would never act like that. Do people think I’d actually yell at a bodyguard to pick something up for me in front of fans? That’s absurd."

He also shared how he was trying to analyze the video of himself and how he looked for a few seconds in the clip. He also added that the way people are reacting with harsh comments is "scary".

He also addressed the rude and mean comments by saying:

"At some point, it has to stop. I could’ve just stayed silent, but I felt like it would rot inside me if I didn’t say something... People who’ve only seen me for a few seconds might be upset, but those who’ve followed me for years know who I really am."

Sunwoo's actions were not only noticed by fans and netizens but even by other prominent figures in K-pop. Korean actress Nana commented on the original video that Sunwoo "needs to be scolded". She clarified, saying that his behavior seemed disrespectful, and it shocked her.

The Boyz' label ONE HUNDRED also released a statement that said:

"We find it regrettable that the situation is currently unfolding in a different direction from what we and the artist were reflecting on... In order to protect our artist, we cannot just sit back and watch while unfounded and malicious comments are being posted about this situation," the label concluded.
