Green Day made their debut at Coachella on Saturday night (April 12, 2025) as they closed out the second day of the 2025 edition of the festival. Many fans believe that it was a full-circle moment for a band that rose from the early '90s Bay Area punk scene to eventually become one of the most beloved groups in the global rock scene.
This was the band's first-ever appearance at Coachella. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong had previously popped up during other acts' sets, such as joining the Replacements in 2014. However, Green Day never had the band perform a full set on the festival's main stage. That changed this year with a high-octane performance that featured protest, art, punk energy, and more.
This year's festival leaned relatively more into its '90s California rock roots, reports suggest. Following in the footsteps of blink-182's 2023 set and No Doubt's reunion in 2024, the Green Day trio stepped in as one of the few rock headliners this year.
Green Day's full setlist at Coachella 2025
Green Day's 18-song set pulled mainly from their two beloved albums, Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004). However, a few newer tracks were also performed from their recent album, Saviors (2024).
As reported by NME, their full Coachella 2025 setlist is as follows:
- American Idiot
- Holiday
- Know Your Enemy
- Boulevard of Broken Dreams
- One-Eyed Bastard
- Longview
- Welcome to Paradise
- Hitchin' a Ride
- Brain Stew
- St. Jimmy
- 21 Guns
- Minority
- Basket Case
- When I Come Around
- Wake Me Up When September Ends (with intro from Tom Petty's “Free Fallin’”)
- Jesus of Suburbia
- Bobby Socks
- Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
The Green Day set opened with a relatively theatrical prelude: Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody played over the speakers. A bunny-suited hype man came bouncing across the stage to The Ramones' Blitzkrieg Bop.
Then, the band launched into American Idiot, the politically charged track from their 2004 album. Reports say that Armstrong tweaked the lyrics. He swapped redneck agenda with I'm not a part of the MAGA agenda.
Behind them, the stage visuals were a montage of red-and-black TV sets and a giant fist clenching a heart-shaped grenade, a direct reference to the album's now-iconic cover art.

Fans were quick to weigh in on the comment section of the YouTube video as they penned their reactions. Below are some of their remarks:
"I remember hearing this song in middle school. My dad deployed to Afghanistan in 2012, and he died from a suicide bomb attack on the military base. I didn’t know this was about his dad dying of cancer. Hearing it back then and now just reminds me of him. This song feels so nostalgic; it’s wild that the band is still active in 2024. All of them truly love what they do. Wishing them all the best," shared a fan.
"This song is so special…," noted another.
"I'm going to cry hearing this weekend 2 lol," expressed a third.

Notably, during the Jesus of Suburbia performance, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong once again altered the original lyrics to sing,
"Runnin' away from pain like the kids from Palestine"
As reports suggest, Green Day has a history of using their platform to speak out regarding various issues.
