The All The Stars singer decided not to gatekeep her "lip combo" and launched her very own brand instead. In an interview with Vogue, the singer revealed she had worn her brand's lip gloss during her Super Bowl Halftime performance with Kendrick Lamar on February 9, 2025. In a press-release statement shared by Billboard, she noted that Not Beauty is not about her "entering the beauty market" but "filling a need".
She revealed her previous experience of using other products and explained that there was "nothing" in the market that "lasted long" and kept her lips "moisturized." She added,
"I don’t know much about much, but I know a lot about lips, and I feel like Not Beauty is not beauty. It is just something that I wanted to share that worked for me and I hope works for you. It’s really well made. It’s awesome.”
SZA will be debuting three lip glosses during the GNX tour, including The Flesh, Strawberry Jelly, and Quartz. According to Billboard, the lip glosses will be priced at $23 and are first in line to other products, including lip stains, creams, and liners. The product packaging draws inspiration from "wood textures, plants, insects, and bold natural hues."
While it is unclear if the products will see an in-store or global supply, SZA is keeping her fans guessing. For more information, customers can sign up on the Not Beauty official website, and products that are gluten-free, cruelty-free, and vegan.
SZA joins the league of other artists who have started their own makeup and beauty lines. From Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty to Rihanna's Fenty Beauty, there has been a gradual increase in artists venturing into entrepreneurial activities. Fans and followers have reportedly shared mixed reactions. While many look forward to purchasing the exclusive drop, some asked if there was a need for another beauty brand by an artist.
