“Some days I feel okay, and other days it's just hard”: Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy opens up about her grief journey

Kate Cassidy has been very vocal in expressing her grief over her late partner Liam Payne's death. The 25-year-old shared a post on her Instagram story on Monday, April 15, 2025, where she requested her followers to ask her any questions.

When asked by a fan how she was dealing with the grief of Payne’s passing, Cassidy responds:

“Grieving can be really unpredictable. Some days, I feel okay, and other days, it's just hard. 'I'm taking it day by day and doing the best I can. I'm sorry if you've lost someone too.”

Liam Payne and Kate Cassidy had been dating for two years before the singer’s death in October 2024.

It's been half a year since British singer and former One Direction member Liam Payne suffered a critical fall from his third-story hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The former One Direction star was on a trip with Kate Cassidy, his girlfriend of two years, before his sudden death.

Kate Cassidy opened up about the final moments she had with Liam before his death on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, released on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The 25-year-old had left two days before his death, but not before they had one last conversation, which she says she is grateful for.

“I’m so glad that we had that last beautiful moment together.”

She talks about their last conversation.

“On the last day in Argentina, my car was in the driveway, and we went back into the guest house, grabbed my suitcase, and we were sitting on the couch, and I just kept going on and on and on about how much I love him and how much he means to me. And he laughed, and he interrupted me, and he just said, ‘Kate, you’re gonna miss your flight … You’re acting like this is the last time you’re ever gonna see me again,” the young TikToker recalled.

“I think when I think about the last day and the last words that we said to each other, it brings me this mixture of pain and peace,” she added.

Kate also talked about the plans they had made and how they were planning to start a new life together.

“We’d just bought a new house. We just got a dog. We just moved to America as well. I mean, I was living in England with him for two years … It was just all these new beginnings, and it was in just such a positive light. So I remember sitting there with him, and I was going on and on and on and saying to Liam how much I love him.”

In the emotional and raw talk with podcast host Jay Shetty, Cassidy talks about how she helped Payne with his struggles with substance abuse; she also revealed about dealing with hate from his fans when they started dating.

Kate Cassidy shared that reading past letters that Liam wrote to her helped her get through the hard times.
