Oasis' Liam Gallagher is owning up to his racially insensitive tweets.

The lead singer of the band took to X on Tuesday, July 1, to mock those with East Asian roots with a racial slur. The Daily Mail, NME, and The Independent all shared screenshots of his comment.

"Chingchong," the 52-year-old commented, which is a word widely regarded as heavily offensive against those from South Korea and Japan, among others. His comment was promptly taken down, but not before it sparked a wave of backlash online.

When one user suggested he was going to get "canceled," he replied, "Whatever." When another told him he can't use such words, he questioned curtly, "Why." Upon informing him that it's racist, he said, "Behave." Yet another called him out for offending his fans, to which he said, "Chill out Birdy."

He has since issued an apology, which reads:

"Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. peace and love LG x"

Everything to know about Liam Gallagher's comments days ahead of his highly anticipated reunion show

Liam Gallagher's offensive tweet comes days ahead of his widely anticipated reunion tour with the rock band, which kicks off in Wales tomorrow. The Wonderwall singer announced the tour in September 2024, revealing that the band would traverse across the UK, US, Canada, and Mexico.

It was also recently revealed that Oasis would be dropping an accompanying film related to their concerts, which is being directed by Steven Knight, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Liam Gallagher and his brother Noel have infamously been involved in a public dispute for the last 15 years, which adds all the more hype to their forthcoming tour. In the weeks leading up to it, the singer took to social media in June to reveal that the band is on top of their game:

“We have LIFT OFF Rastas sounded f—ing FILTHY,” he penned at the time. “I’ll tell thee that there for hardly anything.”

When a fan asked him if he was nervous to reclaim the mic, he said, “Dont be ridiculous.” Another asked him, “did you sound amazing?,” to which he said, “Cmon,” dubbing the band's rehearsals “SPIRITUAL” and “BIBLICAL.”

Someone also asked him if he got “emotional playing with everyone” after splitting up in 2009, to which he responded, “No time to get emotional we have a lot of catching up to do.”

Back in October, Liam Gallagher opened up about why fans wouldn't be hearing much from the brothers as they prepared for the tour:

"We don’t want to do interviews coz we’re scared of the media asking us intrusive questions and trying to pick holes in our relationship."

Following two performances in Wales, Oasis will head to England for 10 shows, before heading to Scotland for three. They will then shift to Ireland for two shows before they kick off their North American leg in Toronto by August.

As of this writing, there are no festival dates or shows where they will be headlining in their roster. However, as reported by Billboard, when an eager fan asked Liam Gallagher if Oasis would ever make it to the Knebworth Festival, where they famously played back in 1996, he said:

“Let’s see how this tour goes if we still love each other after it."
