Green Day’s Luxembourg stop on The Saviors Tour delivered an unexpected twist during what’s usually a heartwarming concert moment.
As part of a tradition, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong handed one of his acoustic guitars to an audience member on June 30, inviting the fan to join him onstage for “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”
But instead of the familiar chords, the fan launched into something else entirely.
Armstrong told the fan:
“You told me you could play this one!”
He tried guiding the fan back on track. Instead, the fan began strumming “Wonderwall” by Oasis. Once Armstrong realized what the tune was, he reclaimed the guitar and signaled for the crew to escort the fan offstage.
“Oh, f**k! Nice try, nice try.”
The moment quickly went viral, adding to a growing list of headline-worthy moments from Green Day’s global tour. Earlier this year, Armstrong made waves after flipping off a concert-goer who sprayed him with a water gun during a show.
In May, the punk rock trio was recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During the ceremony, bassist Mike Dirnt told fans:
“I hope everybody comes here and takes pictures for as long as you want to and as long as you can. We’ll never say ‘thank you’ enough.”
Green Day has also taken on major festival stages in 2025, including BottleRock, Coachella, and the U.K.’s Download Festival. At the latter, Armstrong paused mid-set for a political message:
“Donald Trump and his administration is a fascist government. And it’s up to us to fight back.”
Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong joins Sex Pistols and Frank Carter for a surprise “Anarchy” moment at Tons of Rock
The “Wonderwall” moment comes after Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong made an unannounced appearance during the Sex Pistols’ set at Tons of Rock Festival on June 26, where they delivered a high-energy rendition of “Anarchy in the U.K.” with Frank Carter.
Armstrong, whose band headlined the Norwegian festival that same night, stepped onstage during the final song of the Pistols’ 14-track set. He and Carter, formerly of Gallows, stood side by side, rallying the crowd to chant along to the punk anthem’s chorus.

After the song, Armstrong was spotted holding the band’s setlist while chatting with Carter offstage.
Tons of Rock, held in Oslo, is the biggest rock and metal event in Norway. This year’s lineup features major acts across genres, with Muse headlining the previous night and upcoming sets from Kaizers Orchestra and Avenged Sevenfold still to come.
Artists like Weezer, Megadeth, Dream Theater, and Poppy also round out the 2025 bill.
