j-hope is known for his infectious laugh and electrifying performances, but it seems his charm couldn’t win over this popular dish — at least when it came to pronouncing it.
Following his solo concert in Manila, Philippines, on April 13, the BTS member was treated to a mouthwatering feast of iconic Filipino dishes: pork sisig, crispy pata, halo-halo, and sinigang na baboy (pork sinigang).
During a live stream following the show, j-hope excitedly showed off the selection from the restaurant Manam, introducing each item one by one as he tried to read the names on the packaging.
He began with crispy pata, a Filipino dish that features deep-fried pork trotters or knuckles, typically served with soy sauce. His tone turned extra enthusiastic as he shifted his camera to the garlic rice.
Then came the crispy sisig, a beloved traditional dish made from pig’s jowls and ears. In the stream, he revealed that it was his favorite of the spread.
But the real highlight came when he moved to the next viand: sinigang na baboy, a sour soup made with pork and a variety of vegetables.
Focusing on the package, j-hope gave the name a try but barely made it through the tongue-twister.
His mispronunciation left fans in fits of laughter, with ARMYs flooding the chat and social media platforms with playful reactions.
At the end of his broadcast, he showed his hand holding a cup of halo-halo, a popular shaved ice dessert. True to its literal translation (“mix-mix”), it contains layers of leche flan, ice cream, milk, mango, sweetened beans, and more.
With ingredients that tempting, it was no surprise when j-hope declared the sweet treat as another favorite.
ARMYs melt as j-hope fumbles through “sinigang na baboy” in his post-concert live stream
BTS’ beloved fandom flooded X (formerly Twitter) upon catching j-hope’s live stream — especially the part where he adorably struggled to pronounce the famous dish. For many ARMYs, the moment was nothing short of cute.
Online user @cherrybomb8_ gushed over the rapper on the app:
“Gosh why are u so adorable im gonna dieeeeee”
@flwrknjs, on the other hand, joked:
“gonna make this my ringtone for real”
Fan @kookie97carts expressed willingness to ditch the correct pronunciation for the Hope World singer, saying:
“from now on the correct pronounciation for sinigang na baboy is now ‘singgang na babuy sa ssss…. sa sampalik’ i love you so much hobi”
Meanwhile, following j-hope’s live stream, @SAMfeelstherush was inspired to order the same set of dishes from Manam.
“MANAM J-HOPE SPECIAL. had to get the garlic rice, pork sisig, crispy pata, sinigang na baboy sa sampaloc and the ube sago shake. One thing is for sure, our HOBI ate so well.”
