Benny Blanco, in an interview with Harper's BAZAAR on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, said that his music taste is similar to a "15-year-old girl's mind." The hitmaker of many songs, along with Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber, to name a few, has topped charts for weeks. He compared his music taste to a teenager's mind, saying:
“I feel like my mind and a 15-year-old girl’s mind are very similar in what we like, musically."
He added:
"I’ve just always been drawn to having fun and making stuff that makes me feel good. If it winds up being something that other people like, then that’s cool to me."
He concluded:
"If it doesn’t, then that’s also cool to me. I think being iconic is not giving a f---."
Benny Blanco was born Benjamin Joseph Levin in Reston, Virginia, and his love of music came from both inventiveness and boredom. He said:
“There was literally nothing to do whatsoever where I grew up. We had no choice but to make music.”
So, Benny Blanco hopped from one music store to another with his brother and would often work on them after pasting them on his desktop. By the time he was in high school, he was already sneaking into New York City in his late teens to perform pitch beats and DJ sets, occasionally crashing at train stations and parks.
Soon, his efforts paid off as he signed with the label Kasz Money Productions and started working with big names in the industry under Dr. Luke, and worked with Max Martin, Bonnie McKee, Shellback, and Cathy Dennis before he turned 20.
By the time Benny Blanco hit his mid-20s, he was already a hit; he wrote multiple international hits, like Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," and Ke$ha's "TiK ToK."
Speaking about his passion for the art, he said:
“I had no idea my career was gonna be what it was gonna be. When we were making ‘Teenage Dream’ [with Katy Perry], we didn’t know it was gonna be this iconic song people are gonna talk about forever. We were just making a song and having fun and getting drunk. It’s not rocket science. Sometimes you happen to be in the right spot at the right time.”
With so many hits, Benny Blanco himself cannot keep track of them. In an interview, Blanco was on Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast and mentioned that he has been in the industry for a long time and has many songs that he can't keep track of. He mentioned an instance where:
"The first, like, big pop thing that I ever worked on was Britney Spears. Sometimes I am in a restaurant and I'm like, 'Oh my God, this song's so good.' And I Shazam it, and then it's my own song."
To which Shane asked how Blanco didn't recognize his own song. He replied:
I'm old and can't remember anything."
Benny Blanco said that he has been "making songs for 16 years" and asked Shane if he was able to remember every person who was on his podcast.
Love, Collaboration, and Selena Gomez. Benny Blanco marrying soon?

Benny Blanco's most meaningful collaborations have been with Selena Gomez. It all started as music collabs when they first met. Selena was 17, and Blanco was in his early 20s. They made hits like “Same Old Love” and “Kill Em With Kindness.” Later, when they realized they had more connection than just music collabs, they gave it a shot and announced their relationship in late 2023 and a year later, their engagement.
They recently dropped their collaboration in March 2025, "I Said I Love You First." Blanco referred to it as "comfort and authenticity." The album on its debut was No.2 on the Billboard 200, and Ojos Tristes, which featured The Marías, went on to top Billboard's Latin Pop Airplay chart.
Blanco mentioned in the interview with Harper's BAZAAR:
“You know, Selena makes it very easy to write songs about ’cause she’s the best.”
Blanco and Selena were on a double date with Logan Lerman and his fiancée, Analuisa Corrigan. She shared it on Instagram, in a carousel of photos, and Benny Blanco commented under the post:
"Wait... I'm gonna marry u."
This has now sparked rumors of marriage.
Logan is set to appear with Selena in the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building, which premieres on September 9, 2025, on Hulu.
