How Liv Tyler discovered who her biological dad was

According to E! News, in a podcast episode of Sibling Revely by Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, Liv recalled that she sat on a bench at an outdoor amphitheater during an Aerosmith concert, when her mom shared the truth, in the most "sincere, beautiful way." Until this revelation, Liv believed that her birth father was Todd Lundgren.

Liv Tyler later explained that she first felt a wave of shock, after the show. She recalled:

“After that concert, we went home and my mom had a chaise lounge in front of a window. I remember sitting there for what felt like three days, but it was probably three hours, and coming to this conclusion of ‘Whoa, I have two dads and all this love.’"

In a report published by People, The Captain America: Brave New World actress said she loves both her dads, describing Lundgren her "spiritual" father and at the same time pointing out how Steven Tyler had supported her during the birth of her son, Sailor, in 2017.

How did her parents meet?

Bebe Buell was just 18 when she left for New York City, chasing a career as a singer and a model. She and her boyfriend at the time, Todd Rundgren, caught the attention of Aerosmith, who flew the pair to Boston to explore a probable collaboration with Todd as a producer.

However, an affair commenced between Buell and Steven Tyler, which reportedly resulted in the birth of Liv Tyler on July 1, 1977. While Rundgren signed Liv’s birth certificate as father, he was also a key figure in her upbringing for several years.

In an interview with The Guardian, Liv Tyler felt it was a big thing for a man to say:

“I know this kid might not be mine, but I still want to be her father.”

Even though Todd and Buell weren’t together, he was a stable and loving force in Liv Tyler's life. She said:

“It was so cool to visit Todd in Woodstock in the 1980s. I would get up early and go find him, because he stayed up all night working with his computers and went to sleep later in the day. That was just his normal artist’s schedule. He would have big parties every summer. I was 12 when I first met Michael Stipe at one of them, and he is now one of my close friends. That summer, my mom and I moved from Maine to New York and I was fascinated by the city.”

She noted both her fathes were uncoventional, saying:

"They are like unicorns or wizards. They are musicians through and through. The way they think is just different. Their eccentricities have made me more practical and more normal, in a way. As a parent, my fantasy is to cook every meal, read every story, do everything, and also work all day. I’m overly hard on myself."
