The Batman 2 script is still not ready. This was confirmed by Warner Bros. executives, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy to Deadline. They revealed that director Matt Reeves is working on the script and the film will start production only when filmmakers are satisfied with it.

The Batman was released in 2022, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/ Batman which marked a major reboot for the iconic DC hero.

Earlier, the sequel was anticipated to start filming by the end of 2023. However, after all these years, the script is still not finalized:

"We’re not in the weeds on the 'Batman' stuff. It’s really James [Gunn] and Peter Safran who run DC. We have a bit of other collaboration with Matt Reeves, but Peter and James know he is a writer/directing auteur in his own right, and that it will come when he’s written his best 'Batman' script and is ready," the executives stated.

Matt Reeves was quoted as speaking at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, saying:

"I can tell you that we're going to be shooting this year and that we're excited about it. I can't really tell you anything about it."

While there has been very little assurance from the filmmakers, fans are convinced that The Batman 2 will not see the light of the day. With this latest update, fans have only grown skeptical. Guess they are only going to believe it when it eventually hits theatres. If at all.

Some are even comparing it to Blade movie stating that it’s giving off similar vibes. Netizens are roasting Reeves alleging that he is doomed, and is taking the entire franchise down with him.

Social media reacts as The Batman 2 script is reportedly incomplete

Matt Reeves is getting roasted quite a bit on the internet. People are saying he is working hard, but under his helm, The Batman 2 is never going to receive the green light.

Even some fans are joking that Robert Pattinson just needs to join James Gunn's DCU and abandon Reeves. A user, @VV4VS, stated:

“Should just let Pattinson join Gunn's DCU, Reeves is cooked.”

Another user, @waffyworld, added:

“Gunn doesn't want this Batman and he doesn't want the DCU to be a mess. We are not getting Batman 2.”

A user, @NoSkillZ_09, declared:

“Matt Reeves with the biggest fumble of the century…”

Fans are sure the studio is just messing around with words, and that the film is most likely going to be canceled eventually. Others even went so far as to name every single film that has come out since the first Batman, right up until the currently unreleased The Batman 2.

One user, @SepzenoOfficial, thinks they are just meddling with words:

“The movie is getting cancelled??”

A user, @JohnHPiette, highlighted:

"We got a whole dune trilogy between Batman films 🥵"

Another user, @spoejd, added:

"We also got Oppenheimer & we’re getting The Oddysey before Batman 2’s scheduled release date."

Others fear that this will become a "Blade movie situation"—where the movie just keeps being pushed back without any actual forward movement. People are even half-joking (or possibly even serious) about not seeing this movie until at least 2030.

A user, @SuperSavvyGames, thinks:

"This movie isn’t happening yall. The signs are all there. This SUCKS."

One user, @LONDO87540615, poked fun, saying:

"Well let’s hope this doesn’t turn into a Blade situation."

A user, @neolithicobject, asked:

"This is gonna be released in 2030 right."

Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson is said to be in the running for a part in Denis Villeneuve's next Dune 3, or Dune: Messiah. The film is set to begin production later this year, and if that occurs, it might mean that The Batman 2 gets pushed back indefinitely.
