In the age of movie marketing where posters are either cinematic masterpieces or completely unhinged fever dreams, Paul Thomas Anderson has clearly chosen the latter. The first look at his upcoming film One Battle After Another dropped online this week, and let’s just say the reactions are already better than most movie scripts.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor, the film isn’t out until September, but the posters are doing more than enough to fuel online chaos. If the mission was to get people talking, mission very much accomplished.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie poster has fans absolutely losing it online

When the posters hit social media, the first reaction wasn’t awe or admiration, it was pure confusion. One image, featuring what appears to be Leonardo DiCaprio with a visible baby bump, has sparked more questions than a Christopher Nolan timeline.

Fans weren’t sure if they were looking at a metaphor, a body horror twist, or just really ambitious Photoshop work. The design aesthetic also had people wondering if someone just discovered PowerPoint 2007 and went wild with it.

It’s hard to tell if the imagery is symbolic or just plain bizarre, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from putting on its comedy hat and going all in.

Let’s be real, when you drop a poster that looks like a maternity shoot gone rogue, Twitter’s gonna Twitter.

One user summed up the collective confusion perfectly:

“Is that a pregnant man?”

That alone could’ve ended the internet for the day, but oh no, it only got better.

In another jab at the surreal vibe of the poster, someone commented:

“That baby will come out def.”

Now, whether they meant “deaf,” “definitely cursed,” or “a SoundCloud rapper,” remains unclear. But the commitment to the chaos is admirable.

And if you thought it stopped there, another user gave their take on the sheer randomness of the whole thing:

“This isn’t a movie, this is a collision.”

Honestly, it does look like Paul Thomas Anderson threw Shakespeare, Mad Max, and a parenting blog into a blender and hit purée.

One fan took a dig at the design team, asking the question many of us were too scared to say out loud:

“Were these created with PowerPoint?”

We don't want to point fingers, but if WordArt and SmartArt got married, their firstborn might look a lot like this poster.

Someone else chimed in with a critique that felt less like film commentary and more like a Yelp review of a fever dream:

“Looks weird and probably woke.”

Which, to be fair, is also how many people described kale when it first showed up in their salads.

There’s no official word yet on what One Battle After Another is actually about. But with Paul Thomas Anderson at the helm and DiCaprio looking like he’s about to start his third trimester, we’re expecting something bold, confusing, and deeply memeable.

Whether this film ends up being a masterpiece or a two-hour riddle, the internet’s already won. And if the posters are any indication, we’re in for a ride that makes zero sense but will look weirdly amazing doing it.

Mark your calendars for September 26. Or better yet, your due date.
