As stated in the arrest affidavit, detectives received a call from McLane Children's Hospital regarding an infant who was being treated there after being taken from the daycare.
When officers arrived, they found out that the infant had been dropped off at Ignite Learning Academy in Temple at approximately 8:00 a.m. Later, around 4:00 p.m., the child exhibited signs of extreme fatigue.
According to the report, investigators obtained video evidence from the infant room that allegedly shows Jasmine Collum mistreating the baby. In the footage, Collum is seen picking up the infant and swinging him around roughly, making him
"Flop around like a ragdoll."
She then put the baby in a bouncer and bounced him aggressively, causing his head and shoulders to move violently back and forth. The report details that Jasmine Collum placed her hands on the sides of the bouncer and pushed down forcefully, further throwing the baby's head and shoulders in different directions. At one point, she even put her feet on the sides of the bouncer, bouncing it so hard that the infant fell over sideways.
Collum is also accused of grabbing the baby's head and forcefully pulling him upright before continuing to bounce him aggressively, causing his shoulders to snap forward and slam back. Additionally, she reportedly pressed her right foot on the baby's chest and pushed down repeatedly.
The report states that Jasmine Collum picked up the infant and slammed him down so hard that the baby's head hit the concrete floor. She continued to bounce the baby with her foot until he became unresponsive. Collum then allegedly took the unresponsive child to the daycare director, who called for emergency medical services (EMS).
Upon examination, the baby was found to have a subdural hematoma in the left frontal area, as well as inter-retinal and pre-retinal hemorrhages in both eyes. According to the document they discovered that the child had:
“Subdural hematoma in the left frontal subdural as well as inter-retinal and pre-retinal hemorrhages in both eyes,”
