General Hospital’s Josh Kelly (Cody Bell) has a new film coming out, and it will be in theaters beginning next week
Kelly has a key role in The Workout, which will arrive in limited release August 27th via Anchor Bay Entertainment, followed by VOD and Blu-ray on October 28th.

The movie, created by filmmaker James Cullen Bressack, is a found-footage action thriller. Kelly plays Levi, the brother-in-law of the main protagonist Wyatt Park, played by Peter Jae. Kelly is pictured with Jae on the main movie poster.

Its IMDB tagline says, “After a tragic mob hit, an Army Ranger loses his wife. Consumed by vengeance, he abandons his workout video plans to relentlessly hunt down the mobsters responsible.”
On the movie’s official logline, The Workout "chronicles Army Ranger Wyatt Park (Peter Jae) and his pregnant wife Becca (Galadriel Stineman) as they film a workout video in their private gym that becomes violently interrupted by a mob hit. Becca is killed, but their unborn child is miraculously saved. Grief-stricken and enraged, Wyatt and his brother-in-law Levi (Josh Kelly) launch a merciless mission of vengeance, documenting every moment for the child to one day understand what happened."
The cast also includes Ashlee Evans-Smith, Kristos Andrews, Augie Duke, The Workout co-writer David Josh Lawrence, and BJ Hendricks, who co-executive produced the feature.
The film was made in 2024 and debuted at the Fantastic Fest.
Kelly could be making more films in the future, as he was recently taken off contract at General Hospital and dropped to recurring status.
In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Kelly said that it was his choice because he wants more freedom to explore other projects, including a sequel to The Workout that is in the works. He noted in the interview that he was at times filming The Workout and GH in the same day.
He is also making a film with his girlfriend, Emmy-winning former General Hospital star Chloe Lanier (Nelle Benson). “I want to stay on General Hospital forever!” he said in the interview. “I love being here. I love everyone that I’m working with on the show. I was just looking to have a little more flexibility.”
Kelly, who recently had his third anniversary on the show in June, has plenty of flexibility on GH, as his character is balancing several women on the series. He is caught between Ava Jerome (Maura West) and Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos) at the moment. Assuming Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) makes her way back to Port Charles eventually, they might try to rekindle the brief romance they had before she supposedly died. And there’s also his friend Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening), who is currently single.
