Maxie's (Kirsten Storms) family gathers at the hospital to try to figure out how she suddenly had a heart attack out of nowhere when she seemed to be so healthy. Always the detective, Mac (John J. York) has questions, but he is not getting the answers that he wants. Maxie's heart attack seems to be a mystery.
Meanwhile, Lucas (Van Hansis) wonders why Maxie has not woken up yet. When he is forced to deliver bad news, does he have to tell Maxie's loved ones that she is in a coma? Is her heart so damaged that she will need another heart transplant? That would mean BJ's heart will stop beating.
Stella lawyers up
Now that she knows Marty (Michael E. Knight) can't represent her because he is also the subject of the same insurance fraud investigation, Stella (Vernee Watson) meets with Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) to see what kind of legal trouble she is really in.
Alexis explains to Stella that she unwittingly committed insurance fraud and takes Stella on as a client. Does Alexis yet know that Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) is behind Stella's latest legal troubles? That would certainly be enlightening information, considering Alexis plans to go after Drew for custody of poor Scout (Cosette Abinante).
While Stella meets with Alexis, Drew learns some of his schemes are not going quite as planned, and he needs Marty's help. However, Marty appears to be growing sick of Drew. Wait till he finds out that Drew is the one who ratted Stella out to the insurance complaint board.
Sonny wants answers
Sonny (Maurice Benard) thought Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) was on his side when it came to Drew, but she treated Drew's official complaint about Michael (Rory Gibson) like it was legitimate. Sonny demands to know if Justine is going after his son, even after hearing Drew blackmail him the way he did.
When Anna (Finola Hughes) floats a theory, does she figure out exactly why Justine wanted her to start an investigation into the crooked congressman, or does her theory have something to do with what happened to Maxie?
