Columbian singer Yeison Jiménez passed away on January 10 at the age of 34. He was among five other passengers who died in a plane crash in the Bogotá department of Colombia.

According to a report in Grand Pinnacle Tribune, the aircraft, a chartered plane registered as N325FA (belonging to his company, YJ Company SAS) took off from the Juan José Rondón aerodrome in Paipa around 3:00 p.m. local time. It was on its way to Medellín for a scheduled performance in Marinilla later that evening.

Jiménez was a popular singer-songwriter and a composer specialising in música popular, a genre that blends traditional ranchera with local Colombian roots. He was widely known among his fans for his heart-touching lyrics on love, heartbreak, and everyday life.

Over the years, he reportedly composed over 70 songs and launched eight albums. His songs Aventurero and Porqué la Envidia continue to appeal to a large audience.

Yeison Jiménez was a renowned Colombian singer-songwriter in the música popular music genre. His recent tragic death has reignited a sudden interest in his personal life.

He was born on July 26, 1991 in Manzanares, Caldas, Colombia to parents Orlando Jiménez Aristizabal and Luz Fenny Galeano, who were both merchants by profession. They reportedly ran a bar or a small business in their hometown. They were the first to recognize and support their son’s musical talent when he started performing at a children’s festival at the age of seven.

Despite the financial stability, Yeison Jiménez’s childhood was not easy as it was marked by several challenges. Reports indicated that his both parents were heavy drinkers and struggled with alcohol use. The family environment with his father’s infidelity and physical abuse towards his mother. Eventually, Galeano fled the family home and relocated with his sister to Manizales.

At the age of thirteen, Yeison Jiménez started to write and compose songs. During that time, he worked at Bogota’s main wholesale market. He saved his earnings to fund his first five recordings. This eventually led to his professional debut with the song Te Deseo Lo Mejor in 2013. The song was produced at the studio of Jorge González in Bogotá. The emotional track is about letting go of a lost love.

After accumulating at least 23 songs, only 18 of them were selected to be a part of Yeison Jiménez’s first studio album titled Con El Corazón-Volume 1. With this project, he marked his official entry into the Colombian música popular scene. His song, Te Deseo Lo Mejor became the lead single of his debut album. Jiménez's last musical project was the single Pedazos, a collaboration with Spanish singer Natalia Jiménez.

A recent interview has gone viral where Yeison Jiménez had a premonition of dying in a plane crash not once but thrice. He said:

“I have dreamed several times of dying in an air crash. I believed the dreams were a warning from God.”

Yeison Jiménez is survived by his wife, Sonia Restrepo and three children - María Camila (Sonia’s daughter from previous relationship), Thaliana and Santiago.
