Tom Cruise, one of the most iconic faces of Hollywood, celebrated his 63rd birthday on July 3, 2025. With a career that has lasted more than four decades, Cruise is perhaps most famous for franchise blockbusters such as Mission: Impossible, in addition to critically acclaimed performances in movies such as Rain Man and Jerry Maguire. Cruise is also famous for doing most of his own stunts, maintaining himself at peak physical condition.

Although Cruise's movie career has been stable, his private life has also kept him in the limelight. From his celebrity marriages to his association with Scientology, Cruise's relationships and family have been a focus of media fascination for years. Every stage of his private life has been much covered, talked about, and oftentimes speculated about in celebrity news and mainstream media.

Throughout the years, Cruise has been married a total of three times, has three children, and has dated off and on through the years. Some of the relationships were openly admitted to, whereas others existed in the realm of rumors surrounding tabloids. In the following article, we get an inside look at Cruise's marriages, his children, and the numerous romantic rumors that have encircled his career.

Tom Cruise's initial walk down the aisle was with actress Mimi Rogers in 1987. Their marriage was not long, lasting just shy of three years, but it made a lasting impression. Rogers is commonly given credit for introducing Cruise to Scientology, which would continue to be a large aspect of his life going forward. The breakup in 1990 ended a low-profile start to what would become an extremely public romantic past.

That same year, Cruise wed Nicole Kidman after meeting on the set of Days of Thunder. The marriage had all the earmarks of a Hollywood fairytale, with red carpet sightings and co-film roles. They adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, while together for 11 years. In 2001, the two suddenly divorced. Neither provided much explanation, although Kidman subsequently hinted at the personal cost the split inflicted.

Cruise's third marriage was perhaps his most visible. In 2006, he wed Katie Holmes in a glamorous Italian wedding after a whirlwind romance involving the now-infamous couch-jumping on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The two had a daughter, Suri, in 2006. But the union ended in 2012, with Holmes filing for divorce and gaining primary custody of Suri. The split seemed abrupt and has been left largely unexplained by both sides.

Tom Cruise has three children: Isabella and Connor, whom he adopted with Kidman, and Suri, his biological daughter with Holmes.

Isabella, born in 1992, and Connor, born in 1995, have both kept low public profiles. They were raised in the Church of Scientology and continue to be associated with it. Connor has occasionally stepped into the spotlight as a DJ and actor, but Isabella remains largely private, focusing on her art and family life in the UK.

Suri Cruise, born in 2006, has had to deal with her parents' divorce. Since Holmes took full custody following the divorce, Suri has grown up outside the influence of Scientology. Reports over the years have suggested that Cruise is estranged from her. A List article from December 2022 described his relationship with his youngest daughter as “complicated,” though Cruise has never spoken publicly about their bond.

Rumored relationships

According to The List, in a report published on November 16, 2022, in the early years of his fame, he was linked to actresses like Melissa Gilbert, Rebecca De Mornay, and even singer Cher. These connections, mostly from the 1980s, were confirmed or casually acknowledged in interviews over the years.

After his split from Kidman, Cruise began dating Penélope Cruz, his Vanilla Sky co-star. Their relationship was widely reported and lasted about three years, ending quietly in 2004.

In more recent years, rumors have continued to follow Cruise. In late 2023, The Mirror reported that Cruise was romantically involved with Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova, suggesting even a possible engagement. But by early 2024, those reports fizzled out, with sources confirming the relationship had ended.

He was also linked to Hayley Atwell during the filming of the latest Mission: Impossible sequels. People magazine reported on July 12, 2023, that the pair had grown close on set. Neither Cruise nor Atwell ever confirmed the rumors, but the speculation persisted until Atwell was seen with another partner later that year.

Perhaps most surprising was a string of reports suggesting Cruise was interested in Angelina Jolie. Rolling Stone, on May 1, 2025, claimed that Cruise was “very taken” with Jolie. However, Jolie herself publicly denied any romantic involvement, stating in interviews that they were not in contact beyond professional circles.
