The Batman: Part 2 is the upcoming superhero film directed by Matt Reeves. It will serve as a sequel to 2020's The Batman. Warner Bros. Pictures will be releasing it on October 1, 2027. Reeves has written the film with Mattson Tomlin.
Robert Pattinson is returning as the Caped Crusader in the sequel. Several other actors will also be reprising their roles in the forthcoming film.

Sebastian Stan to play Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part 2
The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Sebastian Stan has been cast as Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part 2. Earlier, it was reported that he was eyeing this role. In the comics, Dent is a district attorney who turns into a criminal mastermind after half of his face is burned.
Stan is famous for portraying the role of Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He will be reprising that role in the forthcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. Stan has also acted in films like Fresh, A Different Man, and The Apprentice.
Barry Keoghan will be playing the role of the Joker in The Batman: Part 2. Scarlett Johansson had also joined the film's cast. Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis will be returning as the Penguin, Jim Gordon, and Alfred Pennyworth. The film will focus on the superhero investigating a case after the floods and the events of The Penguin miniseries.
The sequel was announced in 2022 but went through many delays. Reeves announced in June last year that they had completed the script. Filming of The Batman: Part 2 is expected to begin in 2026. It will be shot in Liverpool, Glasgow, and Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Erik Messerschmidt is serving as the cinematographer, while Luke Hull will be the production designer.
Dylan Clark is the producer, while James Gunn, Peter Safran, and James Biddle are the executive producers. In a September 2025 interview with Variety, director Matt Reeves spoke about the sequel. He said it will have a villain that has not been featured in a film before.
"[The villain has] “never really been done in a movie before.”
He added,
“[In] a lot of the other films, which I love, once you get past the origin tale, which we didn’t quite do, but we did something that referred to his origins, then you start telling the Rogues Gallery story and that character’s sort of arch but I never wanted to lose [Batman] at the center of these stories, and so that is really what we set our aim on.”
Fans can probably expect more casting news in the coming weeks as the shooting is expected to begin this year. The film will release on October 1st, 2027.
