Semi-Soeter on Netflix is a South African comedy-drama film that shows a married couple trying to find a balance between their personal and professional lives.
Directed by Joshua Rous, it is a sequel to the 2012 Afrikaans film Semi-Soet, which starred Anel Alexander and Nico Panagio as the leads. They return the cast, which includes Louw Venter, Sandra Vaughn, Diaan Lawrenson, Neels van Jaarsveld, and more. Its logline reads,
"Power couple Jaci and JP find themselves in a bumpy predicament when a new work pitch for a baby brand forces them to play the perfect pretend parents."
At the end of Semi-Soeter, JP chooses his family over business and welcomes his and Jaci's new child with an open heart. Denise goes to Dubai instead of him for their Rugby deal.
What is the story behind Semi-Soeter?

Semi-Soeter revolves around Jaci (Anel Alexander) and JP (Nico Panagio), a happily married couple who own a marketing business, Mojo. They do not have a child of their own, but that doesn't bother them since they spend most of their time working to grow their business. Yet, it all changes when they learn about an opportunity to work for a baby brand that is hoping to expand its business in South Africa.
Around this time, Jaci learns that she is pregnant. That comes as a bit of a surprise since she and JP were once told that they could not have a baby. So, while happy, she is also worried about managing her daily duties. As it happens, JP learns that his old friend Joubert (Neels van Jaarsveld) is also trying to get the baby brand's business deal. Unlike JP, he is married with two kids, which puts him in a better spot for the brand.
After realizing that, Jaci and JP decide to pretend they also have a baby. In reality, they take charge of their close friends Hertjie (Louw Venter) and Karla's (Sandra Vaughn) baby, dubbed Henry. Joubert doesn't know this, nor does his wife Chadrie (Diaan Lawrenson) or anyone else at the business event. So, Jaci makes up a story about her childbirth while hiding the news about her actual pregnancy from JP.
How does JP learn about Jaci's pregnancy?

In Semi-Soeter, JP and Jaci take care of the baby, knowing it will help their chances of working with Marietjie (Hélène Truter). Although reluctant at first, they warm up to the idea of having a baby. As it happens, Joubert suspects that JP and Jaci are only pretending that they have a baby. So, he makes a bold plan to kidnap Henry and keep him in his room.
Soon, JP and Jaci panic as they realize they have lost the baby. Joubert walks up with Henry, claiming he rescued him. Amidst all that chaos, JP and Jaci admit that they do not have a baby. The couple argues about their lack of responsibility, which led to this situation. So, JP walks out of the event, leaving Jaci behind. That leads Jaci to tell him about her pregnancy.
What does JP decide between his business and family?
JP leaves to sign a lucrative rugby deal with a firm from Dubai. So, Jaci worries that he will leave her for good. To stop him, she barges into a house where he is speaking with their business partner. By the time she meets him, he has signed the deal. She tells him that she is pregnant, and he is as excited about it as she is.
At the end of Semi-Soeter, JP reveals that he never meant to leave his family for business. Although he signs the deal, he lets his colleague Denise (Corine du Toit) go to work in Dubai. Once these confusions are cleared, JP and Jaci share a beautiful moment as everyone cheers for them. Over a year later, Jaci gives birth to triplets and raises them happily with JP.
The ending of Semi-Soeter shows the couple finally being the kind of family they always wanted to be. The business event gives them a crash course in taking care of a child and shows how rewarding the experience can be. So, in the end, they make time for this happiness.
