The San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle (SFBAFCC) has officially announced the winners of its 2025 awards. The critics group revealed its winners following voting by its 47-member body.
SFBAFCC was founded in 2002. The organization brings together film journalists from across Northern California. Its membership includes writers and critics from multiple publications such as the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Oakland Tribune, Contra Costa Times, San Francisco Bay Guardian, SF Weekly, East Bay Express, Palo Alto Weekly, Marin Independent Journal, San Francisco Examiner, KRON-TV, Variety, RottenTomatoes.com, and other outlets.
This year, Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another became the most recognized film at the 2025 San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle (SFBAFCC) Awards. The project bagged Best Picture and collected multiple additional honors. Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, also earned recognition for its technical achievements. The movie was placed as a runner-up in multiple categories.
The 2025 SFBAFCC awards also continued the tradition of the Marlon Riggs Award. This year's recipient was publicist Karen Larsen, whose work has supported independent cinema. SFBAFCC released an official press release in this regard, stating:
"In recognition of her decades of unwavering dedication to the San Francisco Bay Area film community, Karen Larsen has championed independent films and world cinema with distinction. Through her tireless work as a publicist and advocate, she has elevated countless filmmakers and promoted numerous local film festivals, enriching the cultural fabric of the region. Her enduring commitment to amplifying diverse voices and fostering cinematic discovery exemplifies the spirit of the Marlon Riggs Award."
It also added:
"Named in honor of the late Bay Area filmmaker and activist Marlon Riggs, this award celebrates courage and vision in the Bay Area film community. It is given to individuals or organizations that embody Riggs' legacy of social engagement, innovation, and commitment to diverse storytelling."
