Actor Freddie Prinze Jr, who recently turned 49, is known for his roles during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The Scooby-Doo star has appeared in numerous TV shows and films during his three-decade-long career. Prinze Jr has seemingly taken breaks or thought about quitting acting on multiple occasions. The actor partially stopped taking acting jobs around the early 2010s after working on 24 with Kiefer Sutherland.
In 2014, Freddie called out Keifer in a chat with ABC, saying:
“I did '24,' it was terrible. I hated every moment of it. Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face, I think everyone that's worked with him has said that.”
He further added how the experience led him to stop working in the acting industry:
“I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped.”
Freddie Prinze Jr focused on his work with WWE and did some voice acting roles. Apart from his feud with Keifer, parenthood was another reason he took a break from acting. He told E! News in 2017 about how parenting became a priority once his daughter, Charlotte Grace Prinze, was born:
"For me being a father, not having a dad, it makes it my No.1 priority."
He added:
"So when my daughter was born, that was pretty much it for me. I became a full-time father. It's not a job. It's what I love to do."
Despite making occasional comebacks by acting in different TV shows and films, Freddie Prinze Jr has kept his focus on other projects like podcasts. In a 2017 conversation with CBS News, the actor reiterated:
“I've really stepped away from the acting. I don't really do that anymore.”
He hosted the Prinze and the Wolf podcast with comedian Josh Wolf until 2021. Later, he started two podcasts – Wrestling with Freddie, and That Was Pretty Scary.
Freddie Prinze Jr almost quit acting after working on I Know What You Did Last Summer

During the early phase of his career, the actor got one of the most memorable projects, I Know What You Did Last Summer. The 1997 slasher horror film also almost made him quit the entertainment industry. In a 2023 interview with TooFab, Freddie Prinze Jr recalled:
“I almost caught a flight and went home. I was done. I had enough. They had broken a ton of union stuff that they shouldn't have, like union rules. All kinds of things. And I just felt like yo, if I’m not wanted here, screw it.”
He added:
“There's other things I can do. I dropped out of Le Cordon Bleu to make this movie. I'll go be a chef, that's what my mom wanted me to be anyways. I packed my bags that night. I was just gonna quit the business.”
The actor claimed his experience working with director Jim Gillespie was far from ideal. The filmmaker reportedly didn’t want Freddie Prinze Jr on the project and even conveyed this to him. He also credited the struggles he faced while filming I Know What You Did Last Summer with shaping his career.
The 49-year-old is now all set to return with an untitled I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, reprising his role as Ray Bronson. Freddie Prinze Jr stars in the film while Jennifer Love Hewitt also returns as Julie James.

Gellar and Prinze Jr first met on the sets of I Know What You Did Last Summer. The actress then made a cameo in She's All That but didn’t start dating Freddie until 2000. According to ABC News, the couple got engaged in 2001. They married in September the following year.
