A drive-by shooting took place at Mello Buckzz's record release party outside a nightclub in Chicago, where 4 people were slain and 14 sustained injuries.
People Magazine has reported that the incident took place downtown on Wednesday, July 2. Several outlets have covered the shooting, noting that police have revealed a dark SUV swung by Artis Restaurant and Lounge at around 11 pm before three people inside opened fire on the masses.
Two men aged 24 and 25 were slain, and so were two women. One was 26 and the other was 27. Per news outlets, three victims sustained injuries to the chest while one victim was shot in the head.
Mello Buckzz, whose real name is Melanie Doyle, has since taken to social media to lament the incident. She said, in part,
“Prayers up for all my sisters god please wrap yo arms around every last one of them.” Mello Buckzz added, "We was having so much fun in our private little life, couldn’t leave each other alone glued to my hip everyday. It’s not a night we ain’t spend together. I’m so fucking angry. U was woke I held yo hand until I couldn’t. U talked to me… My heart broke into so many pieces rn it’s unbelievable… Feel like everything just weighing down on me…all I can do is talk to god and pray.”
Mello Buckzz, a 24-year-old native of the East Side of Chicago, is known for having performed at Coachella in 2023. She debuted hits like “Boom (Mouskatool)” and “Boom Pt. 2,” feat. Latto. She was celebrating the release of her debut album, “HollyHOOD," at the time of the incident.

Per Variety, Artis Lounge nightclub has also issued a statement acknowledging the incident, affirming they are collaborating with authorities in the investigation:
“Last night, an act of violence occurred within the vicinity of our restaurant and it deeply shook us. Artis was created as a safe space. A Space where Black, Brown, Queer, and allied communities could gather, be celebrated, and feel at home in River north. We’ve always led with that mission. And what happened last night disrupted it in the most painful way. Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones.”
Reportedly, police have acquired surveillance footage of the shooting and have recovered two different types of shell casings left behind. However, an arrest has yet to be made. Officials are also reportedly searching for any links to another recent shooting.
The two women had been rushed to Northwestern Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. As for the two men, they were rushed to Northwestern Hospital for life-saving measures, to no avail. They have since been identified as Leon Andrew Henry, 25, and Devonte Terrell Williamson, 23. The latter was Mello Buckzz's boyfriend.
Vibe has reported that among those who sustained injuries, eight are in a critical condition. Victims include a woman, 29, who was shot in the shin, a man, 29, who took a bullet to his thigh, a woman, 31, who had been shot in the knee, and a 25-year-old who sustained injuries in his hand and thigh.
Another 25-year-old woman had been shot in the thigh as well, while a 30-year-old woman took a bullet to her hand. One man, 29, was shot in his forearm, and another woman, 27, was hit on her foot.
As of this writing, further details about the incident remain scarce.
