Who is Kyla Pratt’s fiance Danny Kirkpatrick? Actress reveals why she hasn’t married partner of over 20 years

Kyla Pratt from The Proud Family and Dr. Dolittle has been with her longtime boyfriend, Danny Kirkpatrick, for over two decades. Even though the couple has already established a tight-knit family life, they supposedly have no plans to rush into marriage, despite fan curiosity and outside pressure.

Danny Kirkpatrick is a multi-talented artist from Compton, California. By profession, he’s a tattoo artist, but he's also a musician and entrepreneur. According to People Magazine, his early foray into the art world was discovered at a young age as teachers observed his remarkable drawing ability as early as the 1st grade.

The founder of InkArtMusic (IAM), Compton, Kirkpatrick, first attracted national attention when he starred in Black Ink Crew: Los Angeles, a VH1 spinoff that documented his path to opening a tattoo shop in his hometown (Yahoo News).

In addition to tattooing, Kirkpatrick has done music under the moniker iAmCompton, dropping songs such as “I Do What I Want” and “Lift Off.”

The duo have been together for nearly two decades, but the couple has not married each other. Kyla Pratt herself has been candid about the choice in multiple interviews. She told DJVlad in a 2014 interview that the societal pressure regarding marriage can be too much to bear.

"There’s a lot of pressure that comes with that piece of paper. Why not work on your relationship before jumping into that pressure?" She said at that time.

A successful partnership, as Kyla Pratt stressed, does not need legal documentation.

"Even if we wanna do some Kurt Russell-Goldie Hawn-type thing ... They’ve never been married, still together, got all these kids, and still strong," She added.

Although Danny Kirkpatrick eventually began playing football in high school at Dominguez, his passion for art continued as it was his major in college.

Kirkpatrick faced a brief setback in 2005 because of a non-violent drug offense that cost him his scholarship. Kirkpatrick got back on his feet by taking up tattooing as a full-time profession. He honed his craft on himself and friends before making a name in Compton’s tattoo and music world.

Kirkpatrick bumped into Kyla Pratt in 2008 through one of his cousins, who was friends with the actress. The chemistry was immediate, and they have been together since. The couple now has two daughters, Lyric, born in 2010, and Liyah, born in 2013 (People Magazine). Kirkpatrick also shares a son from a previous relationship, whom Pratt lovingly calls a “bonus baby.”

The duo have frequently employed humor to avoid public speculations about their relationship status. During a 2024 E! News interview, Kyla Pratt joked saying:

"We showed up at the BET Awards, and people were like, ‘Congratulations on your engagement.' We were like, ‘What are you talking about?' We just said thank you." she said.

While marriage might be in the cards at some point, both Pratt and Kirkpatrick have shown that they prefer their relationship as is and that they are not the type of couple that feels the need to adhere to societal expectations.
