The Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham recently revealed that Carlos Valdes is the father of Mae Whitman’s child. The Scott Pilgrim vs. the World actor welcomed her firstborn last year and has maintained secrecy around the baby’s paternity.
Valdes is a Colombia-born actor who has made notable appearances in The Flash, Gaslit, Up Here, and more. He reprised his role from The Flash in other Arrowverse shows such as Supergirl, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and more. Besides his work on TV, Carlos Valdes has appeared in Broadway productions—Once and Hadestown—as Andrej and Orpheus, respectively.
The Colombian-American actor has kept his dating life private. According to Who's Dated Who, Valdes was previously rumored to be in a relationship with The Flash star, Jessica Camacho, who portrayed a recurring role on the show. Neither Valdes nor Camacho addressed the rumors, while the latter did speak to Collider in 2017 about their chemistry on the show.
“The chemistry that Carlos and I have is a natural chemistry that comes out in our characters, and that influenced and guided the direction that we are now seeing take place, which is so awesome.”
Carlos Valdes took parenting tips from fellow Broadway actor Darren Criss
The 35-year-old actor also kept mum about fathering Whitman’s kid. He recently opened up to People about being a Broadway dad, without mentioning the Good Girls actress.
“Not a lot of people know this, but I'm a dad, a relatively new dad. And it's my personal preference that I don't share more beyond that, but being a Broadway dad... let me tell you, it's not for the faint of heart! This life is pretty unforgiving when it comes to balancing it with parenting.”
Carlos Valdes further shared about talking to a fellow Broadway star, Darren Criss, who is a father of two. The theater actor proclaimed that speaking to another “Broadway dad” was helpful and allowed him to bond with Criss “in a new way.”
“It's been really helpful to lean on each other, share tips and have him as a support system and sounding board for all of my parenting woes. It's allowed us to bond in a new way. It's also a tremendously joyous thing to be able to have a child and have that inform our respective stories.”
Lauren Graham revealed Carlos Valdes as Mae Whitman’s baby’s father on the Armchair Expert podcast
The 57-year-old actress recently appeared on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. While talking to Graham, the Zathura: A Space Adventure actor pointed out how her relationship with her Parenthood co-star is the “sweetest.” She responded.
"Yeah, It really is [special]. But you know I think she is… No matter who you are, like, I still get a little, like, thrill when she'll text me back because it's not a given. And she's a mom now, and she's working and she’s in Ireland. She’s hard to pin down. And so, I, you know, if I can get her, I’ll… I like… you know, panic text her to, you know, to just get as much out as I can.”
She again called her relationship with Mae Whitman “special.” Lauren Graham recounted the last time she saw her and spilled the beans about the paternity of her child.
“I'm trying to think the last time [I saw her]. They're in New York now. Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway, in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug because he's fantastic in it. Carlos Valdes. And he’s lovely. He’s really great. And so they're in New York for the next, like, while and then she got this job in Ireland. So she's in Ireland with the baby.”
Graham mentioned Carlos Valdes as Whitman’s baby's father but didn’t confirm whether they were currently dating. Both actors were the leads on Up Here, which is a 2023 eight-episode-long musical romantic comedy.
