As David Corenswet readies up to kick off James Gunn's reign in the DC universe with Superman, the actor is also opening up on what future the Kryptonian hero is looking forward to with other DC characters. In a recent interview, Corenswet answered a burning question that a lot of DC fans might have: Who will Superman team up with next? And the answer might surprise you.
Although the Man of Steel is often seen teaming up with Batman, it's not who Corenswet wants to meet next. The actor instead wants to collaborate with another Gotham hero- Nightwing.
"I think, like, a Nightwing character. One of Batman's proteges, I think, would be really cool because Superman has good dad energy. I'd like to see his uncle energy."
According to fan theories, in one of the storylines, Superman adopts the Nightwing alias as an alter ego within the shrunken city of Kandor, alongside Lois Lane as Flamebird. This tale of Superman's visit to Kandor stayed with Dick. In Tales of the Teen Titans #44, he chose Nightwing not just as a fresh start, but as a quiet tribute to Superman’s faith in him.
More details on Superman
James Gunn’s Superman, set to release on July 11, 2025, marks a new chapter for the Man of Steel and for DC itself. It’s not an origin story. Clark Kent already exists as both a reporter at the Daily Planet and a superhero trying to navigate what it means to be part Kryptonian and part-human. Raised in Smallville, grounded by Earth’s values but burdened with alien strength, this Superman is being reimagined for today’s world.
Gunn's version leans into the vulnerability of what it means to be kind in a world that often sees kindness as soft. Inspired by All-Star Superman, the tone blends myth with warmth. It reminds us that strength isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s quiet steady, and hopeful. The film will be the first project in Gunn's first chapter in the DCU, called Gods & Monsters, and will initiate the further projects the director has planned for the studio.
The film is being led by David Corenswet, who is taking on the mantle from Henry Cavill. Joining him is Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane looking sharp as always. Nicholas Hoult is the antagonist- Lex Luthor, bringing more danger into the film with his ruthless, nefarious ways.
There’s spectacle, of course. Sky-high action. Sweeping visuals that already have people anticipating the release. We’ll also meet heroes like Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, and yes Krypto the Superdog. Visuals also include Superman's heat vision, his superhuman strength, and his double life as a reporter and a vigilante.
Superman will be in theaters on 11, July 2025.
